In no order, Jeff Beck, Julien Kasper and Oz Noy. The last two aren't famous, but Julien's "Trance Groove", and "The New Imperial" and Noy's last few - "Schizophrenic" and "Twisted Blues" - can hang with any instrumental rock music ever recorded. When guitarists go to New York they go hear Noy and when they go to Boston they go see Kasper.

gotta love that fuzz arty07:
(I'm pretty sure it's no accident that my faves, along with Yamaha-powered Chris Poland in OHM - all record "live" rather than punching together solos from 47 takes).
