I'm sure it's terrific but I can't stand anything by Carvin.

Care to elaborate?

due to my past guitar related nightmares and dispointments, I have certain trauma-based prejudices (and also some loyalties due to good experiences). Carvin, Peavy, Dimarzio, EMG and Kahler are basicly on my shit list, Irrational though it may be, I could never purchase a Carvin amp or guitar. Like I've written elsewhere, I probably would need psycho-therapy or hyponosis (or electro-shock therapy) to get over it. You shouldn't take it as some sort of insult against your gear. I'm just a damaged individual.

I find that completely understandable

I, MYSELF, have never been able to bring myself to order from carvin
i find their guitar ideas are just sort of lacKing in the style department
do they have great tops? yes
do they do great finishes? yes
do they have an impeccable level of construction? yes
do they make cool body shapes? lol no

all I can appreciate of them now is their amplines

damn
shouldnt i be practicing?
*laughs*

Damn, man. Sounds like someone got the horns over your head. :tard:

Well, in this thread, it doesn't matter if it can be done  :toothy10:

If I'm gonna go that far, I may as well wish for a Claptoncaster. The only guitar that really ~does~ make you play better.

Okay, here's one that is possible.

Flat top LP body, white binding, honeyburst top, trans red sides and bottom. Mahogany body and neck. Maple top. I don't want quilt or flame maple, just plain maple. JB and jazz HB pickups. Trans red neck, too.

For that I think it would be better to go with a spruce top, they look cleaner, and somehow more appealing than plain maple

I want some grain showing. Some of my favorite guitars, including a 76 LP (wine red) that a guy at my church let me play, don't have figuring in the maple. Just a regular-looking grain. The three-peice tops have a certain appeal to me as well.

I think this one is pretty much doable... it's just a matter of funds.

I want a Warmoth SG style guitar, with some interesting changes

  • Warmoth SG body in alder, standard SG routes (two humbuckers, vol/tone/vol/tone, switch, face jack), finished in a deep red stain and either oil or light varnish, mimicking the classic cherry SG color, perhaps just a shad lighter.  I'd also go for the thinnner 1.5" option, and get the neck heel contoured.  I'd like to use individual recessed washers instead of a regular neck plate.
  • LP style neck made out of Satine (played raw!) with an ebony fingerboard and celtic cross inlays.  Wizard profile, 6100 stainless steel frets.  I don't know if the Warmoth LP style headstock is a match to Gibson, but if it is I'd get a Gibson headstock overlay.  I'm not sure on tuners.  Something locking perhaps.
  • Electronics - Duncan P-rail in the neck with parallel and tapped options, Bill & Becky Lawrence XL-500 in the bridge.
  • I don't know if I'd go with a regular Gotoh tunematic or if I'd buck another trend and use the Schaller 475.
