EMG 81/85 wiring problem

I am a newbie on these EMG pickups, and I have an issue with my soloist.  The tone and volume a prewired together (see photo).  the problem is they need to be further apart.  the black wire is not an issue, I can lengthen that easily.  Its the green capacator that I am worried about.  If I lengthen, what should I use?  does it have to be the same length on BOTH sides or can one be longer.

I don't think the lengths really matter too much as a capacitator essentially is just a device that stores charge right?

I am going to see if I can get a new 0.1 micro farad capacitor and put it in.
