Dreaming up a flat-top LP build

So as for the headstock:  I'll grant you all that a Fender (or even a Warhead) 6-inline headstock is kinda startling (some of you would say "ugly") on an LP body.  I'm not gonna lie to you, I don' t much care for the Warmoth 3x3 assymetrical headstock shape. And the Gibby's not my cup of tea either, partly because the break angle over the nut is not as straight as it could be.

So I find myself driven into the arms of another lover, so to speak:  Carvin provides its carved-top headstock on its bolt on necks for 20-dollar upcharge.  Wood choices aren't that great but they're solid-quality necks, and given my goal of a lower-cost custom build, I can certainly justify that part as much as I can a Warmoth.  Another option for increased uniqueness might be the Holdsworth headstock, but I always find those 2x4 headstocks confusing when I have to tune.  I can also get no inlays, which is essentially precluded on Showcase necks.

I love the white body, tortoise pickguard combo. The black speed knobs are a great touch, and a pao ferro neck would be the perfect complement. The flat top body doesn't bother me one bit.

That first carvin headstock is completely awesome. Probably my favorite 3x3 shape.

Well, that's that.  I'm not gonna pursue this build, because...

A local guy who's on hard times put a brand new, unfinished W strat body and a satin vintage-tint neck and Wilkie  bridge and tuners and other misc. hardware up on craigslist locally, for about a third what it would cost to do it all new.  So I bit.

New thread shortly when I get time to photograph the goods, but the quick description is:  Flame maple topped strat, top-routed, ash backside; all maple vintage-modern neck with SS6115's (my favorite!), gold wilky bridge, output jack plate, neck and pickguard screws, and PW tuners.

Nice catch! Good for you! Everybody needs plenty of Strats. No collection is complete without about a dozen or so. And those are all great specs and parts, to boot!
