Ok got rid of the previous post that was here.

First off, Would spraying be the easiest approach for a beginner doing finishing?

And does anyone that has done jazz basses found any rail type (like some strat pickups) pickups that are actually good?
Found some cheap ones on fleabay and they didn't seem much improvement over the kit basses pickups.

Spraying is way more difficult than a wipe on finish.
I use Behlen's Master Gel and get good results and there are other wipe on options also.

Hmm ok a transparent colour wipe on finish of some kind (if can find one in uk, probably not looked properly haha) would probably disguise the body enough. Some areas that won't go too well with a transparent finish.
Thanks for the idea.

Hell i may even find somebody that'll woodburn a dragon all over it and leave it as a clear finish  :o

If I were to have to use paint I'd use automotive paint in rattle cans.
Spray the color in very thin layers lightly buffing each layer with a scotchbrite white pad to remove "orange peel".
Build up layers until it's where you want it. Then do the same with spraying clear top coat.

Some one else will hopefully chime in with better instructions about how long to wait in between coats and how long to wait before final wax ( car wax possibly ? ) etc.
