Do I need long shaft pots/switches?

I ordered a carve top tele with LP controls:
Vol 1
Tone 2
Upper 3-way toggle

Do I need long shaft pots and switches for this, or will the normal short ones suffice?

Also does anyone carry black 3-way switches?  Not black switch knobs, actual black switches.  I'm loking for a black stealth ninja setup. =)

Thanks

Always buy long shaft pots and switches. They work everywhere. Short ones only work in certain situations, like on pickguards.

All-black switches are easier to find in mini-switch form. The standard Switchcraft toggles like you see on LPs and some others I've only ever seen in silver or gold. The blade-style switches like you see on Teles and Strats go by the tip and mounting screw color, as the switch itself is pretty much completely hidden. If you're patient, you could look through an Allied or Mouser catalog. They have about eleventy bajillion switches available, and they're just scratching the surface.

Is this not what you're looking for?

As Slarti postd, I was able to find the LP switch in balck on the W site.

I also wound up getting the long shaft pots from them since, as Cagey mentioned, they work everywhere.

I would up placing two orders for 'extra build stuff' based on procing and availability:

From W:
500k pot
500k push/pull pot
barrell knobs
Electrosocket w/ switchcraft mono jack
metal hum rings with screws/springs

From StewMac:
Sperzel tuners
Strap locks
pickup height screws

Thanks all.  I'm slowly collecting all the stuff I need.  My tech has a cap, so all I'm down to now is wiring and (potentially) copper shielding tape if he thinks we need it.

5 weeks and counting...
