different sizes for input jack holes???

Hey everybody,

might be a kind of dumb question for all of you experienced builders out there, but for me  :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:
The build I want to do offers me  7/8" or  3/4" for the jack holes, which one will be correct?


Another question:  If I understood correctly, it's better to take the Fender Humbucker cut outs, right?

7/8" jack hole is better.

Humbucker cutouts will fit humbuckers, single coil cutouts will fit single coils. There's no mix/match available for a Tele that I'm aware of. Single coil pickups are a slightly wider package than a 'bucker, and 'buckers are slightly deeper. it's possible to have a cavity that will fit both, but Warmoth doesn't offer it unless you get the "swimming pool" route, and I'm pretty sure that's only done on top-rout Strats.

I just wondered since W. offers  Fender HB cutout or  Gibson HB cutout. That's why I was asking.

Neither 7/8" or 3/4" is better. Different people like one or the other. Traditionally, Teles use 7/8", but on a custom build you can do what you like.

7/8" uses a cup:

3/4" uses a football or square jack plate:

Personally I prefer 3/4" as I like to use cords with right angle plugs, which can't be used with a 7/8" cup. But if you do get 7/8", get the electrostatic cup pictured above, which has screws to hold it in place.

Fender Wide Range HB's are bigger than standard HB's. If you're talking about a pickguard, don't get the Fender cutout unless you're putting Fender Wide Range style HB's in it. Everything else uses the standard Gibson size HB.

You forgot the 1/2" hole that uses a deep panel jack and a dremel tool to make the jack usable in the hole!
It's my favorite by far.

for the Tele Deluxe I don't get that option. Where have you seen that possibility?
Is the mono or stereo your favourite?

I've been using the stereo because I need that extra to allow the battery to be disconnected when the jack is pulled out.
It's probably not available for that body if you don't see it.
I always use strat bodies.

If you go with the 7/8" jack and still want to go stereo for active pickups, you can swap out the supplied jack for a Planet Waves jack that has the additional lug on in, just screw the jack into the cup.

If you have a single-output, passive instrument, whether the jack is TS or TRS is of no relevance to anything.
The ring terminal of a TRS jack is used to ground the battery in instruments with active component(s), or to provide a second output for instruments with separate outputs for each pickup.
