I don't think Dave will do it (I don't blame him) so go and do it Joey!

But I thought he said he was going to finish up the GoTY before he was done?

FWIW, I don't blame him either. As I said before, he puts a lot of effort into doing these every month, and he gets very little appreciation for it. Everyone just bitches and argues over the rules every month.

I don't blame him one bit for not wanting to do all the work and put up with all the BS.  He has been greatly under appreciated...
I throw great thanks his way for doing it as long as he did.  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Thanks DMRACO!  :rock-on:

Does anyone else want to run the GOTM poll for next year, or should I do it?

I don't know if everyone here has positive feelings about me doing it, as I'm opinionated and tend to complain about everything all the time. If anyone has any objections, speak now or forever (*one year) hold your peace. If DMRACO doesn't do the GOTY, I'll start the thread on the 3rd, following the existing format and rules.

Thanks guys...I have a file with most of the winners in it.  I just have to tack down a few.. Since they are already downloaded in my photobucket account it should not be an issue.  Been celebrating a bit too much the past few days and it seems to have slipped my mind.

Beside...I cannot decide weather this GOTY should be WARMOTH/PRO or OWNER... :laughing8:

It should be only basses. :icon_jokercolor:

Go for it, I say.  You need some web hosting space for pictures and such?  :)

Got some to share? :blob7:

I have my Flickr Pro account which offers unlimited uploads and storage. That's where I host all of my bass pictures and wiring diagrams. I guess I wouldn't mind uploading GOTM pics there as well.

Now.... Are we going to get GOTM January AND Guitar of the year? :D

pleeease, pleeease, PLEEEASE  :binkybaby:

Nah.

I'm thinking about running a poll before starting February's GOTM to determine whether to keep the format the same,  change it to guitar/bass alternations, anything goes each month, etc.
Would everyone flip out or could we just all cast our votes and go with what the majority chooses?

we'll pretend to be civilized, but it will be an all out troll fest the likes of which few have seen 'round these parts in a long time.

i wouldn't mind either way. i'll still enter my guitar in (if i've built one recently), be happy with the 2 or 3 votes it gets, and move on. people take this thing a little too seriously. when really it's just like an amateur car show. everybody drags their hotrod out of the garage, gawks at everybody else's ride, and somebody gets a "best in show" trophy and everybody goes home happy. it's all in good fun :icon_biggrin:

I was under the impression that the GOTY would be one of the 12 that won GOTM in 2010. But, a whole new thing wouldn't be bad. At least then I wouldn't stand a chance of losing. haha!! Either way, I'm happy to have won for February of 2010. February is my birth month too so it had a little extra meaning to me.

Congratulations to everyone that won in 2010.

And hats off to everyone that entered. None of the guitars entered were losers. There was some great guitar porn to look at each month *AND* seeing all those builds really gave me a lot of ideas.

One thing I'd love to do is get all the winners from the previous year, get some really good pics of the guitars, and make a calendar for 2011.

just an idea

A calender that Warmoth could sell on their website so all of the winners can make a percentage of the sales. :icon_biggrin:
(I know, there are a multitude of reasons why it could never happen. Don't point them out.)

Still, thats a great idea though.

Warmoth gets free advertising (all the guitars in the calander) and they make some money to boot. We the consumers
have something useful, and the Fender Custom Shop gets the shaft. Winners all around!!  :icon_biggrin:

I like the idea, too. But, I don't think it's something Warmoth will ever do. They don't want to be known as guitar/bass builders, they want to be a parts company. I suspect it's even part of their licensing agreement(s) with Fender and whoever else they may have them with. If they started showing off completed instruments, it could be construed as marketing/competition, which might get the OEMs a bit riled up and open them up to litigation and/or loss of ability to manufacture many of the parts they currently offer.

As for shafting the Fender Custom Shop, I don't want or need to see that happen. They make nice instruments, they're just not as nice as we can build ourselves, and they're over-priced. But, that's a marketing decision on their part, and likely part of a manufacturing cost reality they can't do a whole lot about that would be acceptable to their labor force or customer base. Doesn't make them bad, it just makes them less viable competition. It's fairly easy to do better than they can for less money, even if you have a scratch-built guitar made by a private luthier. For instance, Ron Kirn makes some fine Strats and Teles that compete very favorably with anything the CS can come up with, and they're priced in the $1,800-$2,500 range. You'd have to use Warmoth parts and and assemble it yourself to get any better.

Not to mention, if using solely as a calendar, it only has a useful shelf life.  T-Shirts, necks, bodies, pickguards.....guitar parts don't go bad sitting on a shelf.  Calendars do.

Sigh, you're probably right... doesn't mean we can't wish.  :)

I checked out that sight Cagey, Mr. Kirn does indeed make some sweet axes.  :icon_thumright:

Yeah, but calanders are supposed to have a limited shelf life Super, how else would the next years winners get
to show their stuff, and thus more advertising and revenue for Warmoth?
