It's a tradition in the Jewish faith.  I suppose someone who is actually Jewish could explain further, but in short, using or spelling out the name of God is taboo.

There also might have been a die hard Floyd fan out there who would spot that it's written like that in the sleeve note lyrics for Take it Back from the Division Bell album. But I guess I'm the only one sad enough to know that  :toothy11:
Also, I don't know entirely about the Jewish thing but I'm not sure if it's wrong to spell out God in all it's forms, or just Yahweh as the personal name of the God of Israel. (Talk about hijacking your own thread lol).
