I'd love to know if this, too, is a Scottish Crest badge...  Nice work Doug!
The genealogist, endeavouring to pursue his researches through the mists of ages, strives in vain to link the Hamiltons with the Norman de Bellomonts, Earls of Leicester; but we will not raise this disputed question. We will content ourselves with reminding our readers that from the time of Sir Walter de Hamilton, to whom Robert Bruce granted the lands of Cadzow, the Hamiltons have stood in the very front rank of the nobility of Scotland.

There is a tradition associated with the origin of their crest and motto, but, like many other family legends, it is not capable of the slightest documentary proof. The story or fable runs as follows:—An ancestor of the house having expressed himself at the Court of Edward II. in admiration of King Robert Bruce, received a blow from John de Spencer, which led, the following day, to a encounter, wherein De Spencer fell. Thereupon, continues the story, Hamilton fled into Scotland; but, being closely pursued, he and his servant changed clothes with two woodcutters, and, taking their saw, were in the act of cutting through an oak tree when the pursuers passed by. Perceiving his servant notice them, Hamilton hastily cried out "Through!" which word, with the oak and saw through it, he took for his crest, in commemoration of his deliverance.

Nice!  But I think that this is a little sad that my Friday nights have been reduced to lessons in Scottish genealogy.  I'm must be getting old...

That's the rosy version. Unfortunately the more accurate one is that the Hamiltons were right behind the Stuarts  in line for the throne. The saw going through the oak tree represents a final push to owning everything they ever wanted, basically a major exercise in greed. In between those political days and now there have been some Hamiltons who were quite decent human beings, if not famous. Those are the ones I'm memorializing on the back of the Warmoth strat. Depressing, now that I think of it but you did such an excellent job on the engraving that I'll be happy to bolt it on!

Cool! I was just thinking about those today, as I had the neck off my white Strat to I could see if I could wreck it somehow. Thing's got a plain plate on it now, so it just looks cheap and dirty. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

That's gonna be fun!

Be sure to wear a hair net, though. That armature pulley system looks like it has a taste for blood.

I've got extremely short hair, don't think I'll need to worry of that.... :icon_biggrin:

Check it out, I've been toiling with some designs to do a custom neckplate for my first Warmoth build/13th guitar in my collection. And I finally made it. I just basically used a plain black neckplate and imported my design to my cad/cam program and machined out the design. I was gonna smooth out the machine marks and sandblast it,but I think it looks kinda coo the way it is.... :headbang1:
