Here is a Craiglist body and neck I purchased recently...It is a alder Soloist with a Maple top, with a AANJ (all access neck joint) as a bonus. I previously have built a pro finish guitar, and hating the raspberry purple/pink finish that this body came with, so I decided to refinish it. I used a heat gun on the old poly finish and dye, which worked awesome. I then sanded the finish smooth, and did some extra sanding on some chips on the edges and around the controls. After this, I noticed that the wood looked like it was sanded through, not realizing that I was sanding through the clear sand fill coat. My intention was to dye the top black, sand and clear. I mixed up some RIT clothing dye in some denatured alky, and dyed the top. The parts that were sanded through turned into a funky dark purple, and the coated part turned a caramel tone. While I was somewhat pissed that it was not going quite as planned, I kind of liked it. Never seen anything like it, so I went for it, realizing someday I could redo it. I was going to polyurethane it with my spray gun, but decided to rattle can the black laquer on the back and true oil the top. I am pleased with the results. It has a SD Invader in the bridge and a Full Shred in the neck, wired for coil tap on each. Total cost (with a hard case) was about 450 bucks. I already had the pickups in a old Squier Strat that was roached out. Guitar Fetish supplied the
, the Wilkenson bridge, controls and switches, locking tuners and case.
