Here is a Craiglist body and neck I purchased recently...It is a alder Soloist with a Maple top, with a AANJ (all access neck joint) as a bonus. I previously have built a pro finish guitar, and hating the raspberry purple/pink finish that this body came with, so I decided to refinish it. I used a heat gun on the old poly finish and dye, which worked awesome. I then sanded the finish smooth, and did some extra sanding on some chips on the edges and around the controls. After this, I noticed that the wood looked like it was sanded through, not realizing that I was sanding through the clear sand fill coat. My intention was to dye the top black, sand and clear. I mixed up some RIT clothing dye in some denatured alky, and dyed the top. The parts that were sanded through turned into a funky dark purple, and the coated part turned a caramel tone. While I was somewhat pissed that it was not going quite as planned, I kind of liked it. Never seen anything like it, so I went for it, realizing someday I could redo it. I was going to polyurethane it with my spray gun, but decided to rattle can the black laquer on the back and true oil the top. I am pleased with the results. It has a SD Invader in the bridge and a Full Shred in the neck, wired for coil tap on each. Total cost (with a hard case) was about 450 bucks. I already had the pickups in a old Squier Strat that was roached out. Guitar Fetish supplied the
, the Wilkenson bridge, controls and switches, locking tuners and case.

That looks pretty cool. Its wierd how the finish turned out like that. Have you used the standard gotoh wilkinson? Is there much difference between the them? Ive always wanted to do the wilkinson but havent been able to deal with the price yet. Oh and are the pickups and pickup rings textured or something? Or is it just the picture?

This has a Wilkinson 50 11k? I think that is what it says on it. I got it on Guitar Fetish for 50 bucks. It is very similar to the Wilkinson that I ordered from Warmoth with my other guitar I built a few years ago. I used metallic krinkle paint on the pickups, they were pretty rough looking and one was a zebra.

Great job--she looks mean, and in a very good way. I do have a question for you though. The pickups turnd out really nice on the finished product. What did you exactly do to give them that, I wanna say "matte" appearance?  The look really stands out, especially on the Invader with those big pole pieces.

Thanks! I just used a metallic krinkle paint spray bomb that was left over from spraying the valve covers on my Corvette. Its very tough, like bed liner.

Wow!  Nice Job, that looks WAYYYYY better with your finnish than it did before.  I'm impressed
