Are those passive EMGs? I've had NO experience with EMG but I like the way those look. Pretty cool! ....you better post some pictures and soundclips/videos real soon  :party07:

They are active. These just have pole pieces instead of the normal hidden blades.

So, the 23rd was my birthday and my girlfriend knew how hard I worked on this guitar. She decided to bake me a cake! It was delicious and left my teeth blue, even after brushing them for about 24 hours.

Your cake has True Temperament frets!  :laughing3: That looks awesome dude. What a cool woman, baking you a cake like that. Very cool.

Lovely cake, however reminds me of a first cake i baked a few years ago, in which there was far too much blue food colouring somehow, i was the only one that dared eat it
And i dont blame the others  :sad1: :sad1:

LOL yeah, she said she used 2 of the little squeezy things of blue food coloring to get it that dark. Like I said. It was delicious so the smurfmouth didn't matter much. I went to the dentist the following morning and he found it humorous.

Haha nice, ah the cake wasnt coloured itself then? my mistake that makes more sense, :tard:
yeah icing i like as coloured as it needs to be, that time i was stupid enought to put the colouring in the cake, which wouldnt of been bad, but did use alot

Lol no. She used yellow cake for the body and chocolate for the neck. She's a keeper

So I got the guitar back. I'm at work till the morning so I won't be able to plug in until then but it plays like a dream. I need to buy some black metal mounting rings. He put a white one and a Black one on because the ones I supplied were too tall. My knobs are home so the pots are bare. Not worthy of final pics yet. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have the FINAL pics ready to go.

The tech had nothing good to say about my guitar. He insulted my pickup choice and Warmoth. Oh well. At the end of the day I have the exact guitar that I've always dreamt of having.

The hell with it. Tomorrow I'll get some 'as is' pics up.

:( He was probably just jealous - your guitar looks sweet so far.

I agree with Patriot54. Guy was probably just jealous. A surprising number of people respond that way to things that are better than what they have: they disparage it. In their minds, they've lowered you and thereby raised themselves. Ain't no thang. Usually, they only deceive themselves. Everybody else sees it for what it is, unless they're defective themselves.

Well he kept going on about his Seymour duncans in his PRS. Also said if I was interested in the future that he could build me a guitar( strats only) for a fraction of what this cost me lol

Your guitar tech sounds like a jerk to me.  If I paid somebody to setup a guitar that I built and he told me I picked crap pickups and the guitar was no good, plus said he could do it better and for cheaper, I would be finding a new guitar tech.

You and me, both. Slapping customers around who give you money is no way to do business. Ask the members of the RIAA how that's working out for them.

Well, he said EMGs are 'toneless'. Granted I know they are active pickups and throw them in any guitar to get that 'emg' sound and it almost doesn't matter what wood you use but last time I checked EMG is one of the most successful pickup manufacturers in the world. They must be doing something right. I've got an ESP ec1000 with emg 81/60s and I love the sound. I've got an mh300 with emg hz's and I hate that sound buy I've always planned on trying something new with those pickups.

Like I said, I haven't plugged in yet but his words were 'they don't sound any worse than an 81/60 combo'. Hell. I originally planned on getting that combo again but I loved the LOOK of this set. James hetfield wouldn't attach his name to a shitty set of pickups after being endorsed by them for so long.

I'll get some picks up in a few hours but just keep in mind the mounting rings are going to be swapped with metal ones.  Je put what he wanted on this even though I supplied black ones. Apparently the one I gave him were too tall.

You're assuming facts not in evidence. Microsoft is one of the most successful software providers in the world, and AOL was at one time one of the most successful ISPs. AOL got their just desserts; we're still waiting for Microsoft to get theirs, although their flagship is flagging. Then, look at Gibson. So sad. One might be tempted to conclude that success != goodness.

Well, I've been using EMG's for 10+ years and I love them. I based my purchase on personal experiences as well. I personally LOVE the pickups hands down with NO complaints.

Seriously...hasn't this been beat to death.  EMG makes a fine pick up, however the tone is not for everyone.
I personally have a 81/85 combo in one of my guitars and love it.  EMG, Duncan, DiMarzio, Fralin, Bareknuckles...its great to have choices... :occasion14:

That is the excuse I keep telling my wife for needing 7 guitars!  They all are set up different!  If I only played metallica...I would always use the EMGs.  Fortunatly for me I play matallica, led zep, tom petty, john cougar, beatles...and even some of my own stuff.  All I need now is a roadie! :toothy10:

You're exactly right. I wasn't disparaging EMG pickups, but rather his justification for calling them "good" was that they were a successful company, which doesn't mean anything. Microsoft is highly successful while still providing some incredibly bad products and services.

Fact is, EMG does make good pickups, and if one enjoys their characteristics then one should take advantage of them. It is, as you say, just another arrow in the quiver.

I am planning for my next build to have some nice actives. My girlfriend already gave me permission to have 10+ guitars. I told her I only need 7-8. standard, eb, drop c, drop d, db, drop db, and all those with EMG's, as I enjoy that tone the most. Then maybe 1-2 tuned in E or Eb with a different pickup for other songs.

anyway, time to go outside. Guitar is 100% done. pictures!!! The only thing I'm going to change is the mounting rings. I want to put metal ones on. The white one the tech put on I painted black with some Krylon motha!!!
