Clear nitrocellulose lacquer over acrylic or other types of lacquer

Based on the various posts on this site I am planning to paint the back of my Saga kit (LP) guitar and follow with clear coats on both the front and back.  I can find locally the deft nitrocellulose clear, but nothing in a color (looking for gloss black).

Can I use another type of lacquer (e.g., acrylic) for the paint, and top it with the clear nitro from Deft?

When in doubt, test.

Go down to your local (bigger) auto parts store and get some Duplicolor paint in the rattle can.  Get the clear coat there too if you like.

best thing I learned here was when doing something I had no experience with, I first did a mock up board

I got a 1 x 8 and did the entire thing to it from start to finish, waitng as long as recomended between coats, sanding etc, It added over a month to my first finish job but I learned so much doing so, and save my self a lot of mistakes when I started on my first body.

I still made a few mistakes and had to sand stuff out, when I look back at the project though I realize I really would have screwed up without doing such as I knew my stuff was going be compatible and I knew I had to be patient between coats and such for everything to cure properly.

a lot of good advice can be learned reading old threads here, and a lot of guys have posted up mistakes for us to learn from, do some research and do some practice and you will love the results

Thanks.  I have been reading this board for a while now, and indeed have been doing some experimenting on some scrap wood, too.  Bottom line - this is damn good fun.
