I'm just about ready to hit the checkout button. :) I've never done this before, so it would be nice to make sure I'm A) not buying incompatible parts and B) that I'm not missing some part I'll need. Thanks!

I realize that I'm missing a pickup, but I'm planning on buying a VanZandt trubucker (a suggestion by a friend)

The neck can be seen here: http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?i=SN6388&Body=1
And body here: http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseItem.aspx?i=ps3691&Body=2

I presume that all of the knowledge I'll need to know to put it together will be a) obvious, b) explained in packages (i.e., pickups), or c) easily found online. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.
Bryce

I see you got the contoured heel neck screws, but I don't see that listed on the body as one of the features.

None of the parts come with instructions. I think they expect the buyer to know what they're doing before they set out on this kind of adventure. I can tell you now, measure twice/drill once. Not too many things get your heart beating like when you're standing over your beautiful new guitar with a drill in your hand getting ready to drill those first holes. Not too many things feel better once you're done doing that and can put the drill down knowing that you didn't screw anything up.

Love that neck and body combination

Also, may I suggest going with the Schaller strap locks rather than standard strap pins? Sucks dropping a guitar. You're putting the cash into this so you might as well add that little bit of protection to it.

Did you intentionally go with the 11-hole on the scratch plate? Just curious. Not that it matters at all, I've just always preferred the classic 8 hole set up.

One other thing, entirely up to you I'm just tossing it out there, you can ask them to route the pickup cavities for an HSH configuration at no extra cost. The reason I suggest it is in the event that sometime in the future if you want to go full size humbucker with it the cavities will be there for you. They also give you a little more room for wires and workspace when you're messing around in there. Just a thought.

and pick yourself up a copy of "Guitar Players Complete Repair Guide" by Dan Erlewine. that would be the instruction manual you are looking for...

Thanks for the information guys.

@mullyman - I've just never had an issue with my guitar falling out with standard strap locks. I'll upgrade since it's so cheap anyways. :) I'll get the other pickguard as well. To be honest, I didn't have a preference. The way that I understand it's been routed is to be able to have any pickup configuration. The only thing I'd have to change for an HSH setup is the pickguard. Am I mistaken?

@Schlieren - Good catch. Thanks.

@Blue313 - I'm not sure what the right choices there were. Is the electrosocket a bad choice?

Thanks for all of the info!

What I mean is that you're ordering two jack plates when only a "Recessed Strat Jack" plate is necessary (plus a switchcraft 1/4" jack).

The Electrosocket jack plate is designed for a Tele, where there's a 7/8" hole in the side.  It's great, but it's incompatible with a standard top routed Strat.

The strap locks are just a good investment and insures that you won't ever have problems with dropping it. As for the pickguard that is entirely up to you. I was just floating an opinion out there. Please don't take it as me saying one is better than the other. I just personally prefer the classic look. Totally your decision. As for the routing I have no idea what they did to it. If it's the boat route then you're covered for every possible scenario. I've noticed with Strats in the showcase, that have already been top routed, are usually routed SSS. If that is the case with yours you can ask them, if you want to, to route it HSH so you do have that option. I wouldn't recommend the boat route though because it takes off so much wood.

Again, these are all just personal preferences and what I like someone else may despise. In the end, this is your guitar and you need to do the things with it that will make it the guitar that you want. Good luck with this build and keep us updated on how it's going.

I will say I'm not a fan of Schaller-style strap locks anymore. The nut can come off. For that reason, I'm going with dunlops in my #2.

The nut can come off? Which one? The one on the strap? I've been using Schallers damn near 20 years now and have never had an issue with them. Interesting.
MULLY

Maybe you tighten them down regularly?
The ones on my tele came off within a few months. I'm glad I spotted the missing nut before my guitar fell. Now, I've got the strap between the button and lock.

Nah, never touched them. I do have a tool for tightening them though and when I put them on I put some "MULLY" into it and latch them down really tight. I don't use a wrench. I think it's called a spanner. It's interesting to hear this though. I'll check mine when I get home tonight but I don't think they're loose.

I just bought! Thanks so much for the advice guys... Will post photos when complete!

All of this for just over 1,000 shipping included. If these guitars are as nice quality as I understand them to be, then I'm really stoked.

You need to get prepared to be ultra stoked then. May I ask what color the body is? Is it a solid color or trans? Can you post a photo or an item number so we can see it?
MULLY

Yep, here it is:

Oh yeah, get ready to be stoked beyond words. On my first build I was pretty thrilled about the body that I picked up. When it got here I realized that the photos didn't even come close to doing it justice, and the photos were pretty damn good. I can tell you something right now, the color red is really difficult to photograph and this photo is pretty smokin' hot. I bet that thing is going to knock your socks off when you're looking right at it. Yeah, you're gonna be happy.

And, as I've said recently in a few different threads, I paid 1500 for my first build. That 1500 wouldn't even give me rights to look at it if it was a major brand like Fender Custom Shop. I'll forecast the same thing for yours. A thousand dollars is like getting it for close to nothing.
MULLY
20 bucks says that when you see it face to face you're not going to want to drill holes into it :toothy10:

Oh wow, now I'm even more excited! I'll definitely post photos when it arrives.

The neck wasn't finished, so I'm going to have to wait a wihle before I can play it. I can start working on the body beforehand though, right? Drilling, installing pickups, bridge, etc?

Yeah, you can get the body ready beforehand. You don't really need the neck on it for any of that stuff.
