BRY color specs

Anyone know if there are size specifications for the burst pattern, specifically the BRY?  Here are two j bass bodies currently in the showcase.  To my eye the color pattern widths look radically different.  Is there anything designating how these patterns should be, or is it just who happens to be in the paint booth that day?

Personally, I think I like the second one more...

I think it's subject to painter's whims. I have a BRY Velocity here that has such a narrow band of red that in the right light, it's just a BY. Not complaining, just saying it varies.

ghotiphry, I'm with you on preferring the second one.

And I gotta agree with Cagey, probably depends on how the finisher felt that day. I'm also a firm believer in one of the the basics theories of chaotic systems: The Butterfly Theory, Sensitive Dependence Upon Initial Conditions.

To quote Wikipedia:
"In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state."

Could be anything, and not necessarily something that can be quantified or readily known. To put it into common language: Sh*t happens, and not necessarily sh*t you can see.  :icon_jokercolor:

Buy the second one!

I'm with BigSteve.  Also, it could be that an intrinsic defect in the wood or something similar might drive a choice to apply a wider burst.  Speculation, of course, but it would be a rational move by Warmoth to make a piece marketable at a higher price rather than a lower one.

Yabbut...

George S. Patton used to say "A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week."

So, buy the second one!  :laughing7:

You guys are kiling me.  Now I'm second guessing the gray body.

over this one?

Maybe someday...

As something of a radical traditionalist, (jumbo shrimp?), I say go for the burst with the Pao Ferro(?)

Misery loves company, so do overspending guitar collectors! Help me feel better about the money I've spent over the last few weeks: BUY THE BURST!  :icon_thumright:

They both look good. I prefer the burst, but normally I'm not all that fond of them. You will win either way.

I really like the first BRY and wouldn't consider the second.
I recommend you get whichever one you like the most.

................BUT, I like the second burst better and I have champagne taste (on a light beer budget)!  Ditch the grey one, that burst really pops with the darker neck.  Just my opinion, but I always provide great advice, even if I won't take it myself!  So, do what you want........

You know, you guys are like dope pushers.  No, no, that's not quite accurate.  Double A and his ilk are the pushers.  You guys are the addicts in the crack house urging another addict to satisfy that urge.

That burst is mighty tasty...  Just... one... more... bump.  Damn thing is in my shopping cart.

Although they also have this black/brown/yellow on quilt...

And just for comparison

Yeah, yeah.  Okay, so I bought the bastard.  At least I've already got everything else I need to build it.

Well, there you go. You had no choice. You had to buy it. All those other parts were just sitting there rotting... whaddaya supposed to do? Let 'em go to waste? That would be irresponsible, to say the least. No, you did the right thing. You'll sleep better now.

But, you should've bought the quilt top...  :laughing7:

Well, not exactly rotting.  I was proceeding with the gray body build, so a bass was happening no matter what.  But, yep, had to do it.  Now, as to the quilt?  The BRY spoke to me.  It said "I'm the one."  I heard it.  The quilt, not so much, although it sure is purty.
