Hey guys. About to start project #3. It is a mahogany strat with zebrawood top with ivoroid binding. Top will be dyed red with water based transtint and back natural. Both surfaces will be grain filler and tru-oiled. I've never working with binding before.... I'm assuming I should tape it up during the dye to protect it, but what about the finish itself? Will the tru-oil go over it? Should I keep it taped up through that? What about sanding? Can you sand binding? WOn't this scratch the crap out of it? Thanks for any advice!

Thanks Tonar. Useful thread.

So I should plan on scraping it after the dye phase and after tru oil as well, correct? Should I tape it for the tru-oil phase?

I'm thiking I'll probably use a scalpel for the scraping... I have a ready supply :)  :evil4:

Once the dye is scraped the the binding should get what ever the rest of the body is getting for clear finish.
