Yahoo,
looked in my email and my body will be here Friday
wow I was expecting to wait a few more weeks, ordered it the first week of October
Anyway, I am stoked, need to go and get a few more finishing supplies Saturday and start that
Need to get a order for the hardware up and finish the design of the Pick guard so I can order that.
Oh, need to decide on a neck
And call Lollar about pickups
Wow, these things seem to take time don't they, Just getting the body is just a start.
Well I expect a Early January finish, but this is where we will document it

Barn Door Tele, Designed to look like you cut a Body out of an old Barn Door and stuck a neck on it.

Can't wait to see some pics and get the Wood Shed Guitar family growing. Have you decided on the neck/fretboard wood. Something with reddish or gray in the wood grain may tie it all together pretty well.......just a thought.

I am leaning toward blood wood, but need to see how the body turns out
I have also decided, that seing how this is going to be a Barn door, build, My hardware needs to be of different colors, black chorme, gold, you know, May even try to find a set of tuners in different colors from somewhere
I am also going to use non traditional strap buttons, I am thinking the hoops from a padlock hasp.
then the pick guard is going to resemble a sound hole
Now if that delivery truck would just get here I could lay out the body for finish, do a little masking and lay down a base for the stain.

ahhhhhhh......waiting for "the truck" I think all of us know that feeling all to well. Take a lot of pics.....wish I would have taken more during my "Driftwood" build but I will on my "Backwood" build. You gonna age the wood before the base coat......dents, dings....etc?

well it got here

well first I am going for a maple flavored under coat, this is a grain coat and a sand down to coat, I first mixed up some east coast maple stain, then before applying, I took a small paint brush and watered all the grain. I then started applying the stain, as planned it was hard to take in the grain, some is dark and others is washed out looking, or weathered. So. it is such a light color, I went to stain and it keep coming out a bit blotchy, so I went out and decided, weathered, I set up a umbrella outside and set up on a table, I then had control over evaporation and stain by rotating the umbrella and letting the sun come in, I would stain and wait, turn over and repeat, well after 3 coats I had a nice even stain job with the grain kinda stuck between stained and washed out. Perfect.
Let me tell you, this is about 50 times harder than doing a super uber stain job, this is trying to look old with out looking look a cheap job, I have to stay on my toes. to much this way or that way and it is screwed up.
So here goes

a good look at the weathered grain

Standing over it, my Idol of the ultimate guitar god, OK OK I like to weld up sculptures, I do a lot of metal work as a hobby

anyway, I did a knock down with 400, but decided I need some 250 to knock it down real good'
After dulling this stain job out and going down to wood over about a third of it, half down over the rest, I will do a good wash down and seal the grain with a good clear grain filler, then I will go and stain over everything with Burnt Umber, knocking it down as I go, and try to match that Old Barn Look.
After that I will build up a bunch of coats of lacquer till I get that mirrored finish look.
So I need to hit Rockler in the morning and work more on this Monday night

So far, Hubert Sumlin
Guitar shorty
Professor long hair
Lightning Hopkins
Next time I work it gets to hear
Beatles
Trogs
Led Zeppelin
this thing is going be schooled in Classic guitar tones before it even knows what a pickup is
After finishing the die and finish job, I am sending it to a Voodoo Queen In the Swamps O f Louisiana for a lesson in Zydeco and a curse to anyone who ever plays Britney Spears on it.
Oh My wife wants that curse to extend to Taylor Swift

PS  If you think this is strange, wait till I pound in the nails at the board joints
