Back in Brass

I've always wanted to play a brass instrument, namely trumpet or trombone (might have something to do with my love of ska in my younger days), but have never really had access to an instrument or a teacher.

Mellophone is basically trumpet in a different key, so nothing really new there.

French horn, I'm not sure how hard that one will be, since it seems like it has similarities to trumpet.

Trombone, well, I just had it laying around. Otherwise, I wouldn't pick it up.

Sax, well, it would have been what I'd been playing for years, but it looked more intimidating than trumpet.  :laughing7:

French horn is pretty similar, a few of the key combinations are simpler but its basically the same instrument as Trumpet, Double French Horns are nice because its all open, first, and first+second when you know how to work the trigger.

speaking of band jokes, we had one about playing French Horn, "French Horn Players are great kissers, we just tend to hold people funny"  :glasses9:

Slide or Valve Trombone?

Slide is the only way to roll on the bone.  I played "button bone" for a bit.  Was really lacking in the whole expression department.

If you know what I mean.

The title of this thread brings to memory an essay a friend wrote for Music Appreciation, "Bach, in the Saddle Again."

I have a bumper sticker on my Mexi/Warmoth/EMG Strat case that says, "Get Off My Bach" with a picture of the man, teehee.
