at another Headstock question...

I always thought the Variax was straight or at least it was an option, but when I checked it out recently I couldn't find that option..

Does warmoth make a 3 x 3 non-tilt back headstock?  i didn't think they did?

Paddle head maybe, or custom headstock design they cut.

The challenge with 3+3 non-tiltback headstocks is getting a straight string pull.  There can/will be mechanical issues.

This headstock design is very close to what I am designing for my custom neck:
Straight head, 3x3 tuners, no string tees... In the pic, it seems to me that they
used 6 inline tuner set instead of 3x3 set. Maybe they used a staggered set?
As you can see, the strings have almost a straight pull but not quite. Obviously,
ESP thinks that this type of headstock design is sound mechanically and structurally.

I'm also planning to use Schaller 6 staggered inline tuners instead of using string tees.
I just picked up a single Schaller short tuner off eBay. Now I will have 2 tall tuners and
4 short ones (the original set consists of 3 tall, 3 short). Maybe I should use 4 short ones
for A, D, G, and B???

Hope I'm making some sense here...

So you're making your own neck, like one of Leo Fender's early designs.  There's a reason he added a string tree ...

Honestly, I've never played a guitar with a peg head like that.  I'm sure it'll be fine ... but I have to say it's not common.

There sure is.  The nut work wasn't the best.  A straight peghead, even without staggered tuners, shouldn't need tees if the nut is done right.

Every Rickenbacker 6 string is a 3 on the side straight headstock without string trees.  They work just fine - but then again they come stock with graphtech nuts to prevent binding (the strings leave the nuts at odd angles).

Well, I plan to use a LSR roller nut. I have a LSR on
my Fender Strat with no tees, and it stays in tune just
as well as my other guitars... (I don't use the tremolo at all)

I just mailed my headstock design to Warmoth today.
Let's see if they will go for it.

Is that what you're looking to built, pretty interesting? And what the obsession with the non-tilt, what's wrong with a 3+3 tilt? :dontknow:

Yes. I just ordered the body from KnE. Thanks for the info about KnE :)
Tonar will be doing the finish.
I want to avoid the angled headstock because I don't want the truss rod cover on it.
I think it looks ugly with the headstock I designed...
