Are PW tuners too heavy?

Through a little bit of searching here, I've found that Planet Waves tuners are recommended if you're looking for lighter locking tuners. I actually have a set and love them.

But on my next project, I'm building an SG. I'm using a standard thin neck, 24.75" scale, rosewood/ebony. I'm worried that it will neck dive with locking tuners, and I'm not really sure how to determine if my fear is sound.

Would it be better to go for non locking tuners to save weight?

Thanks,
Bryce

Gotoh makes a kluson-look locking tuner that is lightweight, for 3 on a side headstocks - check Mojo musical I think. Planet waves are pretty heavy, if that's what you're looking at.

Are these them? They look cool!

Have you used them? What do you think of them?

Thanks,

I have used the six in line version of these on two guitars and I like them a lot, better than the planet waves. I would get these if I were building a Gibson type.

tfarny,

I have to say that these were an excellent recommendation. I'm really happy with these tuners. Thanks.

I can lift them all by myself. Seriously though the difference in tuner weight really isn't enough to make a difference. SG's are inherently neck heavy. Never played a Warmoth version but SG's need to be slung low any way.

LOL! Good points on the weight & SGs, too.
