April Submissions - Guitar of the Month Contest =5 so far!

Disappointing.  Personally, I feel that all Warmoth guitars or "partial" Warmoth guitars should be included, regardless who did the finish, because, well, they're all Warmoth guitars.  Point being, is that I could have just as easily been dishonest and said, "Yes, I did the finish myself," and could have still been eligible for the contest.

Whatever the case, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal; this isn't my forum, and the rules are the rules, so I'm not going to make a stink over them.   :occasion14:

They are included, partial, whole, whatever.  This contest has been arranged and ran on a volunteer basis from the getgo.  It has never been w/out criticism, to the point that the originator no longer runs it.  No good deed has gone unpunished so to speak.  The version of the contest you see now is the end result.  There is no real prize given, just the respect of your peers.  You could have just as easily been dishonest, then what and so what?  Every other month either preparer of the finish may enter.  These rules and criticisms have been beaten to death.  For what?  A contest that means nothing.

If Tonar entered one of his own guitars that he finished himself................. :help:

Yeah, Warmoth/Pro finished says finished by someone other than the owner.  I could finish someone else's guitar and it could hardly be considered Pro.  I think it's understood what a professional finish and needs no further definition.

I can see my lack of photo skills may just get me in trouble here'

Marko, stellar build, I am proud to compete against it.

and that white strat is tasty, need more entrys to fill out the field

With all due respect, while I certainly appreciate your comments and you voicing your opinion that I've somehow inconvenienced you with my boring post, but, we've moved on.

Lastly, I don't know what gives you the idea that I want to win "something."  Maybe I'd just like to share some photos of my nice guitar with others, and see how it stacks up in terms of public opinion with other peoples' guitars on the forum.  :icon_scratch:

Oh, but it does need a further definition.  What if I was a professional guitar painter, and wanted to enter the contest?  I finished my own guitar, so why couldn't I?  What if I had my neighbor 3 houses down paint my guitar?  Professional or not, I personally did not paint it.  Does this mean I'm ineligible because someone else other than myself painted it?

I'm not picking a fight, only commenting that nitpicking criticisms all but ruined a previous for fun only contest.  In both of those hypothetical cases, we know what professional and owner finished means.

Owner finished , my guitar I applied the finish.
We recognize that there are some guys who do the work themselves, not having the tools and experience of a professional or seasoned hobbyist.
There are professional finishers here, that would not enter in the owner finished as they RESPECT the reason we do such.
And YES you want to win, if not why are you wining so much about it.
Now, I want to ask you  not to muddy up this thread any more and if you want to discuss it start a new thread, we almost lost this contest because of constant bickering like you are doing and I do not want to see it lost because you are upset you were asked to put yours in the Pro finished category.
Relax

And you wouldn't call that AWESOME "Iron Maiden" guitar professional?  The finish on that guitar is absolutely AMAZING.  Not only is that finish nothing short of amazing, but the talent of the owner who did it is, as well.  Most definitely the coolest guitar I have EVER seen.  EVER.

I'm not tryin' to start a war here.  I'm simply voicing an opinion that the contest was closed to some entries because of who painted the guitar.

Later in the thread, someone did point out that months switched on/off where any guitar could be eligible for the contest, a detail I had overlooked.  There was also a comment about a modified explanation in the rules to explain how this works a bit more clearly.

I'm not going to defend the people who nitpick "for fun" contests, but in general, guitarists/bass guitarists are a competitive bunch.  Add that with people who have put a lot of time into building their instruments, and in each of their minds, theirs is the best.  "Mine should have won for this reason, or that reason, or these reasons...blah blah blah."  It's bound to happen, regardless if there's a prize involved or not.  The prize is the recognition for hard work.

In the end, my feelings aren't going to be hurt if come next month, the only vote my guitar gets is from me.  In fact, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.  While I haven't been scouring this forum for photos of other "Star" designs like mine, I've already gathered in the short time that I've been here that the Strat and Tele are "king," and more than likely, one of those two guitars would be the most likely to win.  Even in Warmoth's Member Gallery, I've only seen 2-3 "Star" design guitars.  It's just not a real popular shape or model.  A lot of folks would even consider the "Star" design a thing of the past, and an "80s design that hasn't aged well."

Basically, what it boils down to is this.  I was just disappointed that I couldn't enter this month's contest, because I had been looking forward to it since last week when I joined the forum.  I thought, "Hey, this is a cool contest.  I can't wait to send in my pics, come the 1st!"  Nothing more, nothing less.  :occasion14:

Relax
:icon_thumright:

First off, I'm not the one "muddying up" the thread.  I'm responding to a response that was made.  I'm perfectly relaxed, and have no issue with entering my guitar next month.    There is no need for another thread, where this is just going to carry over into.

Do I want to win?  Of course!  Who joins a contest in hopes of losing?  :icon_scratch:  Whether my guitar would win the contest or not, there wouldn't be any reason to get my nose bent all out of shape.  Is there really a loser?  The winner is based on public opinion.  I think it's safe to say that every single one of us built our guitars the way we did, because they are OUR winners.  Had we not, we would have just settled for store-bought instruments.  Every single one of us has a vision when we started our projects.  Even the guitar that gets zero votes is a winner to someone.

Lastly, I don't see any bickering.  I stated an opinion.  If you don't like it, I don't know what to tell you, other than to get over it.  To quote your words of wisdom, "relax."

And now, back to the program...

Marko - kickass build. I like the white strat a lot, but like last month (when my blue tele came in like 15th out of 14) sometimes you pick the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

Both the barn door tele and Marko's wood pr0n are super cool and unique.

That is all.

Thanks Draco, Grabby..
I didn't want to enter it since I did not yet make pool shots of it.. oh well..  this will have to do for now..

on the pro finish issue..
I consider it a pro finish when you pay for someone to do it..

I can relate to that.

What you're going to see... is more or less alternation of that concept of "owner vs pro" but with some zingers thrown in as well.  The idea is to keep the non-standard categories very wide in scope, and just for fun.  Nothing definite there yet.  Actually... I thought there would an open month this month, but... wishful thinking.

Justatele:

Excellent photo with your tele against the wood plank background!  It really brings out the detail in your build IMHO.

Marko,

Another classy build!

Schidakov,

Ritchie Blackmore would be proud!

I wanted a back pic, but maybe I should have entered a closeup like this

I have now brought it out to play 3 times and someone is always running their hands over it to see if it really is separate wood pieces. I think that is really cool as that was one of the most important things I had in mind, looking like you cut it out of a barn door.

I look at Marko's and get that wrong week to quit sniffing glue feeling, that is one uber sweet Tele
