Anyone used this technique?

I tried it on some scrap wood over the weekend, and it does seem to do what it promises. I've read on several forums the evils of silicones for laquer finishes, but I'm not going to do a laquer finish so it's a non-issue for me. These guys seem to have years of good use on the finishes they've done, but I'd like to know if anyone here has actually used this technique and if so the pros/cons.

Thanks,
Josh

Looks like a neat trick but I try to not use products with silicone on instruments.

What are the ingredients in Armor All® Protectants? Do they include silicone, alcohol, ultraviolet inhibitors and petroleum distillates?
Armor All® Leather Care contains lanolin and natural moisturizers, and UV inhibitors. Armor All® Leather Care Protectant Spray and Leather Wipes contain water-based silicone  emulsions, surfactants, and ultraviolet light inhibitors. Armor All® Original Shine Protectant contains water-based silicone emulsions, surfactants, and ultraviolet light inhibitors, humectants, dispersants and gloss enhancers. Armor All® Ultimate Clean Protectant contains water-based silicone emulsions, surfactants, ultraviolet light inhibitors and a fragrance.

Edit: I'm not sure why I don't like silicone. Maybe from what I was told about guitar polish as compared to furniture polish.
It's just one of the policies I have adopted over the years.

I've used Tru-oil for years. More than a hundred gunstocks. Just never used Armor All.

Why exactly? Is it because you want to refinish with laquer?

So far, in reading around on the web, the pros are pretty clear - some of the best tru oil finishes I've ever seen in photos, done in a day or two and that have lasted 5+ years without problems. All the cons seem to be theoretical and/or curmudgeony. In other words, no one has shown me an actual problem with doing this, and all the reports I've seen (including on instruments) have been very positive. I've done some tru-oil in the past, and on my test piece of wood, this technique is peforming exactly as billed - 20+ coats in a day, finishes beautifully, and no tackiness at all. In all, it seems like progress rather than a gimmick, but if there is a real horror story out there, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks,
Josh
