Anyone up for a blues jam?

Doughboy said:
What exactly is the order of solos? I don't want to overplay & step on anyone else upcoming tracks. Also, is it 12 bars? The one I downloaded has a 24 bar solo.

Here's the order....
0:00-1:00 GoDrex
1:00-2:00 Doughboy
2:00-3:00 MULLY
3:00-4:00 hachikid
4:00-5:00 mmarino
5:00-6:00 Panthur

Times are approximate. Yes, go twice around (24 bars).

Hey this sounds fun... how come I didn't notice this thread until now  :help:

Well, you'll just have to do another after this, Mully.  :rock-on:

We have a couple more people hanging out, join in, man. I think we need like 2 more to do another one with this one.

I would so be up for this jam but I don't have any way of recording :sad1:

grab this:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-Fast-Track-MKII-105632467-i1474272.gc

or this:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-Fast-Track-Pro-Mobile-USB-Audio-MIDI-Interface-103520185-i1126084.gc

and run a cable from your "line out" output directly from your amp/head/preamp into this interface and use the software included. bam, instant recording.

speaking of recording and all. my fast track ultra is in the process of being shipped as we type, so it will be a minute before I can get my solo recorded and turned in. if it's not here by saturday, it may have to wait a week, or so. leaving for Imogen Heap mid-day sunday, getting back tuesday, then leaving wednesday-monday for Bonnaroo.

also, speaking of recording, what kind of software would you guys recommend? the fast track ultra I ordered comes with a copy of Ableton Live Lite, but I'm wanting to use it to record songs. do looping, panning, balancing the mix, edit/copy/paste audio clips, possibly effects, program drums, recording bass/vocals/guitar/sax/synth, use Amplitube, things like that. is there one program that does these things? or are these all going to be from different programs. I'm just not sure what to use. I believe Ableton Live Lite will be fine for things like this, but as far as constructing songs, utilizing multiple tracks and all the other stuff that goes along with professional style music production, will just anything do? I'm somewhat of a beginner with this stuff, btw. I have experience with making songs out of pre-existing loops in acid pro, so I kind of understand that, but I've never done anything like making my completely own songs from the ground up on a computer before. I'm using Windows XP, btw.

I have a Boss BR-600, but I barely know how to use it.  I basically use it as a glorified tape recorder.  Such a waste of money... :P

I have the Line6 UX1 with Pod Farm. I use the free version of Audacity as my recording software. I really have no idea how to use it though other than recording a track. If it got down to multiple tracks and mixing I'd be screwed.

Yeah, I've managed to lay down a chord progression and a solo on top, but that's the extent of my recording expertise.  When it comes to mastering, the sum total of my knowledge is "OOH LOOK AT ALL THESE BUTTONS AND SLIDERS"

Those all-in-one studios always sound so good on paper, what with 8 bajillion features and functions, and they're always so inexpensive we're just drawn to them. And why not? It's 10 times the studio you would have built 20 years ago for $100K. Then once we get ahold of them, we find out you need a 4 year degree in computer science and photographic memory to figure out what in the hell the designers were thinking about when they named all the functions and assigned batches 239 of them to each pushbutton. Nobody's lying - the devices will do what they say they'll do - but they're so impractical it beggars belief. Then, we feel like idiots because we never master them. 6 months later, they have a 1/2" of dust on them and they're obsolete and you can't even sell them for their weight in scrap plastic. It's enough to piss off a saint. So, don't feel bad. You're not alone. We all get sucked in by the promise and end up short a week's wages for nothing.

Man, you put that exactly like it is. That is exactly why I got the free version of Audacity and will leave it at that. I have no dreams of being a recording technician so as long as I can put a backing track in and record something simple over it I'm fine and dandy.

Audacity is a fine piece of work, isn't it? Amazing that they just give it away.

No doubt. When I bought the line6 UX1 it came with some recording soft but I'll be damned if I could figure it out haha! Audacity is user friendly for meat heads like myself.

+1.  Cagey, you nailed it!  :icon_thumright:  The BR-600 manual is about the size of a paperback novel.

I use Adobe Audition. I started out with Cool Edit Pro years ago and then they sold that to Adobe and made some changes and now it's Audition. It's pretty easy to use. It does multitracking well so I'm happy with it.

Please read their license policy. Reaper is not free.

It is free... in the sense of - there's a 5-10 sec nag window, then you hit "ok".

You get full functionality after said nag screen, and can do so unlimited times... without paying a dime.

I've been using it for a few years now as a complement to my other DAW software.

The license gets you the removal of the nag screen for up to 2 major update versions.

5 bucks for the license gets you the removal of the nag screen for up to 2 major update versions.

If after 30 days you decide that REAPER is not for you, simply delete it.

If you decide that REAPER is for you, you must purchase a license.

They put their trust in you. But it is not free.

Back on topic, after six pages there's only one solo uploaded (Gary's) so I've laid down something quick & dirty.
With backing (over the first 24 bars) -
http://www.foxden.plus.com/mp3s/W/wblues1.mp3
Just the guitar track -
http://www.foxden.plus.com/mp3s/W/wblues_gonly1.mp3

EDIT: forgot the recording info - my trusty Warmoth chambered korina strat, Breed neck pu, Digitech RP500 on a mean rectifier setting, Tracktion2 DAW.
Now I've got the backing in my DAW I can string everyone's solos together over the backing or extend the backing to fit everyone on, if needed. Anyone for 30 minutes of blues jam? :icon_jokercolor:
