anyone talk to hannah?

i remember back in highschool one of the music teachers was a crazy boot, but she had perfect pitch, she could hear something once and replay it perfectly. she could even reproduce the note people were speaking at, its crazy stuff like.

I've seen it too much to know that it (perfect pitch) exists.  If it can't be learned and is just an anomaly, then there is no hope for any of us to ever try to learn how to do anything.  Some teachers believe that teachers are born and one can never learn to teach.  If that's the case, why are they teaching if they believe no one can be taught?  Good news, you don't have to have perfect pitch to excel at your instrument or songwriting.  FWIW, I don't see how perfect pitch doesn't ruin enjoyment of music, because everything has something wrong with it.  It's like taking a tape measure or level to your house.  All you would see is the imperfection.

So hannock is doing well then?

With her ears? You tell her max,  you tell her I said "Sup."

I think Perfect Pitch is cool, but it sure can be a burden to some. I know one with perfect pitch, or knew at least, who could have entire shows ruined just because one guitar/bass/singer was out of tune.

I'm sure you can develop a relative pitch and associate your mind to certain things or sounds, but Perfect Pitch is a physical thing as far as I've learned, it seems to be similar to Savant/Autism in some ways. You start to "see" sounds and these sounds all have a certain color or memory or whatever attached to it, so as soon as you hear it, you see that color or memory. There's a savant who sees the world in colors and numbers. When he sees a person, he instantly think of a number, which is associated to a color. His brain is physically abnormal to function in these ways, it's not something you just learn. Same goes with perfect pitch, it just lies there. I'm sure some people never really notice it because it just feels normal to them.

You can certainly improve your relative pitch by a lot, but you can not learn a new type of sense. Think of Perfect Pitch like a spider sense of sorts. It's just there (except Peter was bitten by a spider, but you get my point).

Kind of funny, even when Hannaugh is not here, her threads seem to inspire a lot of discussion and some disagreement.  No wonder she took a break.

Explain this then perfect pitchsters:  How does Phil Lesh, the bass player from the Grateful Dead sound so terrible when he sings?  He supposedly has perfect pitch, yet he is a terrible singer.  I would think that you would know you were singing badly if you had this gift?  If you know what I'm talking about concerning his singing, you know what I'm talking about......

Perfect pitch doesn't mean perfect execution.  It's how your ears and brain work, not your brain and vocal chords.  Music is art afterall, and as much coordination as anything.  Many hitting coaches can't hit a baseball.  Many homerun hitters can't teach someone to hit.  Rather than ask why someone with perfect pitch can't sing perfectly, it's just as strange to assume someone with perfect pitch could sing perfectly.  Henry Ford probably couldn't win at Lemans the same way I've heard Leo Fender couldn't even tune a guitar.  Many with perfect pitch (if it's innate) are not even musicians.

Perfect pitch is real, you just cannot develop it.

Perfect (Absolute) pitch is very real "i am born with it"! In my opinion Relative pitch( pitch interval identification) is way more useful, and that is something you can develop for sure!

Anyway rhythm is still number one!
