Are there plans to update the Color Choices page on the website or the Color Catalog PDF?

The catalog PDF is from 2018 (kind of outdated now) and a lot of options still haven’t been added to he Color Choices page. The really big absences are what transparent and burst colors would look like on roasted swamp ash and roasted alder. The regular swamp ash and regular alder visualizations aren’t an accurate depiction of what the roasted variants would look like. I’ve seen people suggest that mahogany is basically the same color as roasted swamp ash but I’m not 100% sure.

Also some newer finishes like Olive Drab and Goblin Flake are absent from the catalog while discontinued finishes like Mary Kay White are still there.

It would be a big help to have a reference for the transparent colours on roasted alder and ash. Otherwise it feels like guessing when selecting these woods.

There are no plans, and we should honestly take that PDF down. It's impractical to maintain.

For example, imagine spending the money to shoot every transparent color we offer over roasted ash and alder, edit all the photos, and post the PDF.....and then roasted alder gets discontinued. (Which will likely be happening soon.)

I was under the impression the photos were taken as orders came in. Made it seem like it would be fairly easy to maintain.

Sucks roasted alder might get discontinued. It was my #1 choice for a prog metal centric guitar I was planning on placing an order for eventually. Any chance there will be a blowout sale on roasted alder bodies when the time comes?

Doing it like that would be even more work, as someone would have to coordinate it (remember which colors need to be photographed, make sure the body gets routed to photography, deal with customers wondering why their body is taking a week longer they expected, etc), and the PDF would have to be redone every time a new body was added. And many color/wood combos would never be photographed because they are never ordered.

No sale planned. When our supplies run out we'll remove it from the menu. Grab one now if your heart is set!

Is roasted swamp ash safe for now?

And as long as we’re on this topic, just out of curiosity, what’s the reason Holo Flake isn’t available with a satin finish? It seems pretty self apparent that it wouldn’t look good, but did Warmoth test one before deciding not to offer it? Does it just come out as a flat black or something?

Because we did one and it looks like crap. Better to disallow it than have unhappy customers.

Metallics generally look pretty good in satin. Flakes....not so much. Holo Flake? Just.....no.

+1

I've been saving images from the showcase when such bodies are added, just for future reference. Still, it's hard to be reasonably certain. Trans turquoise was way darker on my roasted alder / black korina body than every pic I've seen (good for that particular build as that's what I wanted).

I actually had all R Alder and R Ash bodies spec'd for production, 2 for each burst and trans color (gloss and satin), and most made it in from the shop... then the paint department was backed up with custom orders, removing R Alder as an option was discussed, and the bodies I had made were re-appropriated for other things instead of being sent for paint. :) I still have my spreadsheets though.

If the color choices part of the website is good to go by, I think most of the flakes in satin look pretty cool, even Goblin Flake.

Is there a reason Goblin Flake looks good in satin while Holo Flake does not?

Are there any pictures of this attempt at Satin Holo Flake available to post for shits and giggles?

And Black Cherry kind of looks like a flake but is listed as a metallic. I was actually considering that finish for the aforementioned roasted alder prog metal guitar I was talking about.

To me, a flake finish covered in satin is like waking up Christmas morning with a bad head cold. You know everything is supposed to sparkle and twinkle, but instead it just feels sleepy.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Some people may love it, and so we make it available.

OTOH, holo flake in satin looks like a thousand dead fish eyes staring at you from across a burned out cosmic void of despair and loneliness. The difference is all the milky black. But hey...if milky black with dead fish eyes is your thing, give us a call.

On a semi-related note: off-menu orders are non-cancellable, non-returnable, and non-refundable.

I tried to find a picture because I think I've seen one ONCE... but I couldn't find one. It was basically black satin with silver flecks in it. Something about the satin finish made the flakes lose all their "holo-ness". It was so bad we said "never again!".
