A new prospect.

Update to show how we're sitting. It's been coated and sanded back twice, now has 4 coats of Tru Oil curing with more to follow. Ordered one of Seymour's SH2N Jazz pickups, and two of his 500k Bourns pots. Some shielded wire, and a nice flat metal black pickup ring with rounded corners. It's going to be a one pickup jazz style. Just waiting on the curing now, got some walnut coming for a possible small pickguard. A little like a La Cabronita style.

Thanks. I'm happy so far, except I kinda wish the binding was a little darker but that may happen as more coats of finish go on. We'll see I guess.

That's looking mighty nice. I really like the binding. It isn't in your face like white or black would be. It adds an extra classy touch to it.

Thank you, it's going good so far. I see what you mean about the binding's subtlety. Classy is good. :icon_thumright:

Love it mate. Natural Tru-oiled hog is gonna quickly become the flavour of the month.

You're racing ahead of me now, even have the cover done!

Thanks. Don't worry though, you'll get a chance to catch up. I'm currently at a kind of standstill waiting for finish to cure and parts to arrive. Never got the hog I had intended for the cover, but had some lying around that I forgot about. So I used that, I wish it matched better but it'll do. I saw your latest post and that's coming along very nicely. Finishing is such a pleasant experience, isn't it?

I'm not sure pleasant is the word I'd use, lol.

It's certainly provided an interesting distraction to all the madness going on though.

I wanted something on the guitar out of walnut besides the binding, so:

It's not totally done yet, but what thoughts anyone?

I like that. It calls your attention to the binding. Plus, the grain kind of matches up with the top.

OK, thanks for the opinion. I thought if it's gonna be jazz themed, it should have a jazz type pickguard. I still have to cut it to fit around the pickup ring, but the ring isn't here yet. Here's hoping I don't break it doing the fitting.

The neck arrived a couple days ago. Finally got time to go over it and find that Warmoth did their usual outstanding job on it. Quartersawn Bloodwood with an ebony board. All aspects as close to perfect as possible.

. So I promptly drilled some 1/4 in holes in it.

. Then threaded them and put my inserts in. Somehow it turned out acceptable. my lucky day I guess.

. The body is now cured enough that I can start to give it a slightly road worn look. Nothing radical, just want it to look like it's older but well cared for. In other words, a working musician's guitar.
I'll be back with more shortly, still finishing off the household move and arranging my new shop, so it's been busier than blazes lately. However, as always.....The Beat Goes On.    :headbang:

That's a beautiful neck. I love the color of the bloodwood. The ebony is a good choice for it.

Thanks. Although I can't claim credit for the wood choices, it was a showcase neck I picked because it didn't need any custom work or finish. I agree though, it does look nice.  :cool01:

The showcase is a dangerous place. I go there now and then but only when my credit card is locked up. :icon_biggrin:
