#8 another tele

I sprayed on the enamel in the sunshine and went inside for 15-30 minutes, went back out and it had bubbled. Didn't mess up the front.
I am thinking the previous coating had not cured enough and the solvents in the spray reacted with it and bubbled it up.

You gotta follow a set procedure and give stuff time to set up/flash off. Spray and Pray isn't gonna work!!!

Sand it back, get some high build spray primer . Do two coats, then let dry for an hour, then sand it smooth. THEN mist a coat of brown on after. Wait 9-15 min approx depending on humidity/temp then do a covering coat of brown.

Next time I buy a prime piece I will have warmoth finish it, this time I'm thinking it has a protective finish, Not custom shop or sir, but a cathair special.

By repeating my mistakes, I have become an expert on some things not to do. After a day of drying, the brown 2x was still sticky so I put it in the sun. DON'T DO THAT. FOR a 2nd time it bubbled. This time I let it dry longer before sanding back and respray. DIRECT SUNLIGHT SEEMS TO BOIL A FINISH.

What is occurring, (and direct sun isn't good for long) is that the trapped solvents are off gassing and making bubbles, maybe LEAVE IT ALONE for a week and then re-start.

This is what I didn't have, and evert time I tried to work on the other side, I messed up the side I had looking good.Screenshot_20250526_224925_Gmail~2.jpg

Strung and finished for the near future, I don't ever play out so I am not in a hurry for pickups,

It actually came out looking pretty nice!

Maybe with the money you saved by not installing pickups you will be able to purchase a tool to trim those strings? Good God, it drives me absolutely nuts seeing guitars with strings flying around at the headstock 😞.
