Thanks! No pickup change, but I've thought about and maybe posted about putting in some Phat Cats or Fralin P-92s. I'm really liking my setup though, and at this point, I'm not going to do anything that will drastically change my sound.
The clean direct-to-board Strat sound was fairly popular about 30 years ago. It's the harmonics generated by clipping that are a problem. We are accustomed to those harmonics being shaped by the response curve of a guitar speaker.
I've never really been a fan myself, but who can't appreciate someone who records in the open air of the Southern California Desert with a telecaster and a stack of cabinets sitting in the sand?
