I've heard that they sound different because the set neck is a better join between the body and neck. Not sure how true this is, and anyway, Warmoth's neck-to-body fit is so accurate, it would probably be about the same as a set neck.
There is a company (I'm not sure which one) that used to make a model that is glued and bolted in. You get the stability of a bolt-on with the tone of a set neck. You might need to sand off some of the neck pocket, I'm not sure.
EDIT: Found it, it was an old solidbody Ovation Viper.
Not sure about the V5, but the Royal 8 is really low-gain. My friend has it and needs a boost pedal to get any distortion.
(His guitar does have crappy pickups, though.)
I remember somebody on this forum saying that the Kahler locking nuts aren't very good. Would there be any problem with using a Kahler bridge, put putting a Floyd nut on the neck?
I have another question about the neck. It has a hole for the string retainer, and another one about half an inch closer to the nut. Did old Fender string retainers use 2 holes, or did someone just drill a second hole?
Oops...
I just looked really closely and yes, there is a truss rod. I thought there wasn't because the neck felt really light and the truss rod is a dark color (maybe some rust or something) and I couldn't see it before because it was kind of dark when I was looking at it.
Sorry for the stupid...
I just got a '92 strat body and neck for free and they're in good condition, except for the neck not having a truss rod. Is it ruined, or can I put a truss rod in and then tighten it?
I know that this doesn't exist, but a Gecko 5 doubleneck with fretted and fretless necks would be nice.
I don't play bass, but if I had a bass like that I'd learn.
How much work do finished bodies and necks need when you get them? I know you need to deepen the nut slots. Do you need to file the frets, drill wiring holes, etc?
Warmoth already has tons of great bodies, but I'd love to see an RG body, and maybe an S too. Also, you should make more bodies into 7-strings, the choices are kind of limited right now.
