Bill - Good guess. The silver backing on the pickguard (I had to protect all that art!) put her at 9.9 exactly. So far, the weight seems appropriate, not a problem. Jack - Lavin just kept coming up with more ideas. I feel like I should frame it and hang it on the wall, but it sounds so good.....

I have added the last two pieces of art by Craig Lavin to this build, an ebony pickguard backed in sterling silver and an ebony truss rod cover.  Craig built both for me and added the inlay art, showng flying fish fleeing the Dorado leaping on the peg head. This completes the project, my vision...

I had good luck using the credit card for application, then rubbing furiously with burlap after letting it set up only for a few minutes. Really cut down on the sanding.

Did you have your pickguard made for you or reshape a regular Gibson guard yourself? I need a pickguard that will fit the Warmoth carved top body to use as a template for one I'm having made in ebony. 

Thanks for your opinions on pickguards in general. Based on the Warmoth gallery, most of those LP "copiers" do not use one on carved tops, so your stance (crusade?)appears to be the norm, not the exception.  I don't use a pick, so the guard is a jazz style finger rest for me, a style I don't...
