XII string Ancient Kauri tele build

My Ancient Kauri arrived so i will soon start a 12string tele build  :toothy10: I wonder if Warmoth can do me nice 12 string neck with the headstock between the hockey stick and the rounded style?, there was one in the showcase a month or so ago, i also need to work out neck pockets and pickup routes and wether to go hollow or solid. I have 2 pieces 600mm x 400mm x 50mm.

These planks are really nice and change colour as you move them in the sun
i may get the hand sander out and do the back of one and wash it down with some naptha , it should give me an
indication of what its going to look like. One plank has what they call whitebait shimmer, its stunning and the grain
reminds me of a bush fire.

I think you ordered yours before mine?, but all things come to those that wait lol mine took 25days from New Zealand

These babies weigh about 6kg or 12lbs each and working on getting rid of a fair bit of excess wood they shouldn weigh to bad as a guitar.

Having 2 blanks i have decided one will be tele esquirish sorta build except the pickup will be an old Ultrasonic Humbucker i intend to wire a bit different. I am sourcing some parts, i have ordered a woolly mammoth ivory nut blank to add to the Ancient Kauri body. Vintage Fender Tuners or i might go 6 on a plate Klusons. I am visiting a mate who lives in the mountains and he has some old one piece Queensland maple i could use for a neck blank, he has some very old timbers up there which i will go through and see what else he has for constructing guitars, maybe something Aussie a few thousand years old  :dontknow:

I am starting to gather parts for my Kauri projects, heres some mockups

1: an Esquire with a Rosewood neck and a self wound pup to 55 spec, going to cut the blank myself.

2: 3 pickups, neck Ultrasonic HB, middle Bill Lawrence noiseless strat, 3 Bill Lawrence noisless Tele.
this one at this stage will be a 12 string or still may go a rosewood neck and build a jazzy 12  :dontknow:

Nice piece of wood without lamination as well.........you lucky so and so.  Those Kiwis really know how to cut timber.

If i wet it with a bit of Naptha the grain really pops.

Have one coat of oil to do on the baritone today and will probably get most of the hardware on
over the weekend then get stuck about these 2, will work them both in tandem.

Will go again with a tru oil finish.

Nice Tony.  I'm liking the look of the Esquire, and the QLD Maple would go well with the Kauri

Chris i am thinking about an Aussie neck on one of them  :dontknow:  i am just waiting to hear from a supplier of QLD Maple, so you read my mind. What i dont use can always go on anothre custom.

That looks good, but is not what I was after!

I hate it when someone tells me they have what i want and send something different. I think the rot in the figure comes from root stock.

all the best with your project but i think once you get it sanded down you will like it more.
