Okay, so I got two of my basses on the block. And two folks interested in one of em. And I see this showcase body that's exactly what I want except it's a trem-pick your route, and I was planning a hardtail (but waffling on that point). If I sell it, I'll have enough money for the body and almost a neck.

And then last night I go see some band I've never heard of, and the guitar player is getting these wicked bell tones out of a growling Tele (you can keep the bigsby though). And I remember just a few weeks ago when I played my nephew's Tele through a Vox AC-15. And I start rethinking the whole 'what kinda guitar do I want to build' thing again.

So - you tele players with the wicked distorted bell tones, please knock it off already so I can get one guitar built! Gimme a few months and I'll be ready to think about it again.  Hmmm maybe a chambered  baritone Tele tuned to D and strung just a wee bit heavier - say 11's or 12's...

No.

I love playing my W tele through my Vox AC-15, and wouldn't trade it for the world!!  :laughing7:

Sorry, but I love my Teles and I love my Vox (cept I got  valvetronics 120 stereo that rocks)
Tell you what, once you learn to master a telecaster, and get both the snarl and the bell tones, plus the sweet rhythms, You will want a amp like a Vox
Vox lead the english invasion in the 60s with it's sweet tones, I was glad when they reemerged  as a driving force in America, I had missed the sweet tone they offered and scooped up my Valvetronics when they were back. I have a killer modeling amp that runs tubes, so I get to model whatever I want, have onboard effects so my pedal lineup is small, and have all that by the guys whose amps I loved in my childhood back in the 60s, In the last 6 years I have never even thought od another amp, I just go up and tweak this or that and write it into memory and I have it.

You know, perhaps if you are so distracted by the Tele/Vox combo, you could consider being distracted by a LP Jr./Vox combo instead.  P90's through a class-A running EL84s FTW!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Actually... I'm sorely tempted to go P-90's, and have been waffling on P-90's vs humbucker route w/ a p-90 that looks like a humbucker for the Gibsocaster project.  But ... I need to hear some with the right amp first.  My nephew has a Highway One Tele w/ rosewood board he acquired in  his wheeling and dealing.  He already has a maple one, and is selling this one. I'm getting tempted to take it off his hands and it might sprout another 2 frets out past the nut and a maple board soon after.

I think any Fender sounds good through an AC-30, but then again, I'm big into Rory Gallagher's music.

Just to mess with you some more, here are a couple of clips I found that'll either rock you or drive you more nuts:

I know I'd love to have a 30 one of these days, but I'm tempted to build my own cabinets and stock them with Celestion Blues and just purchase a head.

I have a homebuilt 2xEL-84 amp I built in college. It's been a lot of things in the past 20 years, but at one time it had a good Brian May / Early Bad Company squish. Then I ripped the tone stack out right before graduation and subsequently started working 100hr weeks for a few months afterward. It took it 10 years to be playable again, and never it's not its old self. I had been contemplating building an 18w JCM800 in it. Current plan is a JCM800 Preamp, and run the EL-84's in self split push pull - (like the AX84 firefly does with its 12AU7). Self-split distorts assymetricly when pushed hard, so I have high hopes for some amp chime out of that setup.

I took a look at the AC-15/30 circuit last night, and it's drawing was too cluttered for my focus level at the time,  but a trem-less AC-xx might fit as well (I only have two 12AX7's, but I'm not above replacing a cathode follower with an FET source follower if I needed one more stage) . AC/DC manages to pull some of that bell out of Marshalls, so I think I'll proceed with the plan for that amp.
