Close, but not quite, donner is thunder in German. Thunder in Dutch is donder. And donderdag is Thursday (days of the week in Dutch are not capitalised).
Thursday, Donnerstag in German and donderdag in Dutch have origins from the god Thor or in Germanic origins Donar.
Touch Down
The Dutch left an imprint on New York ... I don't think people say dis dat and dose like when I was a kid sitting on my front stoop. My accent is now gone, though at times it'll come out like I'll say quoite hoitin' may for stop hurting me ... I blame the dutch.
