Yes it will work just fine, just not as loud as a 4 ohm cab (two 8 ohm cabs).

There is no risk of blowing it up as long as the ohm value of the cab doesn't go below the ohm value of the power amp.  In other words, don't get a cab that goes under 4 ohms.

+1 that will work just fine.  You won't get optimal power output, but it won't hurt anything.

If it were 8 ohm head into a 4 ohm cab, then you'd have issues.

Also, if it's a tube amp, don't run it with no cab.
