Wilkinson vs100 replacement with hipshot

Hello, my Wilkinson VS100 trem broke when I was doing a restring/maintenance and let my setup sit overnight due to getting busy and my toddler wandered into my office and had decided to take it outside and lose it for a few days. What I found was a unit that looked like it had been bounced off the concrete a few times. Oh well.

My question is if I could can drop a hipshot trem in there as a replacement, as I’ve tried it on my friends guitars and it felt better. I see this question has been asked before without any real conclusive answers, so hoping that somebody is able to give some insight since some time has passed.
