Why no 335 shape?

I'm *sure* this must have been asked before somewhere (I did search, but couldn't find anything)......but why is there no 335 shape made by Warmoth?

(If this is made, and I've missed it, sorry!)

I've certainly thought about it before but never mentioned it mate. I definately know that if W brought this model in the other 10 projects I'm thinking of would hit the back burner! I love all Gibson semi acoustics and the idea of being able to [personalise them would make me drool.

Personally I'd fit Korina bodied 335 with P90s and an oil finish. Kind if like a Korina 330 but with a solid centre block.

Good Idea!

I want to built a Korina Fender Coronado! or even better a Starcaster!!

If a 335 type was available it would immediately be my next project. (lefty of course)

I have one project going right now, a tele calls out after that and that was going to be it. A 335 would definitely be next, even though it would
most likely have a bolt on neck. But the other issue would be the more difficult task of wiring it up....or ?

A rear control plate would ease the wiring problem. And really it is not that difficult to pre-wire and pull the harness to the holes with string or mono filament. Epiphones have a mini connector to attach the pickups to make it even easier.

Me too if it had a carved top. I have ordered a lefty L5S hollow body and a carved top would have been top of the options list if it were available

my guess is that warmoth is not so keen on hollow ro semi-hollow designs, it probalby takes thatm so much more time to make a hollow ls5 body than the regular solid ones. they probably dred having to cut the front, back and sides separately. if they had to do that more often, if they offered a 335 shape, they would probably hate their jobs. unless of course there are ways t omaking hollow bodies guitars without all of those steps? Gregg, is there some secret process that you've been hiding from us?

Its on the site in the body options. Basically hollow bodies start off as solid bodies, then Warmoth route chambers in them then whack a top on. (I did say basically)

Don't see a 335 shape on the big W site, as close as it gets would be an L5S with a double cutaway, (Possible option?), leaves very little for neck support though.

i think the size of the 335 would make it impossible for them to make. I also believe that the 335 has bent sides like a jazz guitar. maybe something like the gibson cs-336 would be more doable. it has a smaller 335 like body

Take a look at the fourth picture that shows the hollow construction.

Those side walls look a little stout to have been bent. I agree a double-cut L5S would be sweet. I can't see the neck support being an issue, it would be pretty much the same as the LPS and SG when mounted.

Yeah, right about the neck support, same as some other double cutaways. So all we need is a double cutaway option on the L5S to satisfy our 335 needs?

Let's call and order one, when they ask "Right or left handed?", we'll say "I can't remember, we better cover all the bases just in case."

Hey, I've had stupider ideas that have worked...

First of all, the L5s offered by W is flat, not carved.  Secondly, in its hollow incarnation, its cut just like a Telecaster thinline, that is, routed out from a single piece of wood, then capped with a 1/4 inch thick top.  The sides are integral with the back and center.

On a 335, the tops are fit to a solid center block (maple, also the neck is attached to the block), but the sides and back are made like those of an acoustic guitar - attached with kerfed linings.  Ideally, the back will contact the center block and keep things from shaking up to bad.  In practice they usually fit -"ok" to the back... and I'm not sure how they do that!

The 335 type body is not the type of thing W is set up to do on a production basis.  It does not fit with their way of doing things.  If they routed out a 335 body from solid , it would not sound the same, and... would weigh a ton.  Thin laminate top, back and sides and the 335 is already in heavy LP league as far as weight goes.  My 333's weigh in over 10lbs each.

There is a guitar called the CS-336 and another called the "Johnny-A" that are made with solid backs, and fitted carved top tops.  W could do something like the 336 (335 shaped but about 2/3 sized), or Johnny-A.  I'm not sure if the demand would be sufficient to justify the expense of gearing up for it.

We do get requests for this body pretty regularly. The bowed back and top are pretty important body features and should be present but that would require quite the R&D investment. Currently we cannot commit the needed resources towards such a project, but I would be in line for one too if we did! :laughing7:

I rather like it. Double bound, with a carved flame top = guitar viagra! :glasses9:
