Why isn't more neck finish options available in online builder?

There's like 4 finish options in the online builder for necks.

How about adding back and pegface options? I wanna order a alpine white neck with black pegface.

I know I can just mail but it would make it easier just haveing everything there

You can get most any finish on a neck you want, you just add it to the "note" section of the order. I suspect it's not automated because there are too many exceptions to program around easily. They are re-doing a lot of the builder, though, so it's possible that will change in the future.

Ok... But how does that work? If I wrote "white back with black pegface" how does the online order know how much money that costs? Can I add the amount of money myself?

It doesn't reflect in the order total immediately; you sorta have to trust them. You can look up what a neck finish costs, and a peghead finish cost, and note those costs in the order notation area where you ask for your particular finish. It may not be accurate, though. A headstock burst costs more, for instance, and there are other considerations. It's really best to just call them. The sales guys there are really good at what they do - I talk to them all the time. It's not going to be a long call - and you'll be assured that you'll get what you want.

If you don't want to speak to them for some reason, probably the easiest way is to email them with the full details of your spec. They'll then set up the order and let you know so you can log in to your account and pay the bill.

The necks on the 2 Teles in my sig both have non-builder options. I just rang them to order the blue one with no problems but the candy red headstock isn't even a regular phone-in option and seemed to give them a bit of a headache! Still didn't take long to sort out and I then paid as described above.

I think if you just went ahead and paid upfront for an online order, chose clear gloss and put a note on asking for a solid colour and a different colour pegface, they'd just create a bill for the ($20.00? $40.00) upcharge which you would have to pay separately.

If it were me though, I'd just give place the order by phone, they're good guys to deal with.

My real answer to what you said should have been: yes, it would be much better if all possible finish options were available in the online builder. Hopefully the new site will address this.

Calling by phone might be quite expensive since I live in Sweden. I don't have any problems with speaking english tho.

You're not going to be on the phone for long. Those guys really know what they're talking about, and you're not going to have to go through some long involved computer answering service that nails you for $8 before you even talk to anybody. If you know what to ask and don't slip into Chatty Cathy mode, you can probably be on and off in less than 5 minutes. Small price to pay to get what you want.

Done this plenty of times, via the order.

When you build a neck in the builder or an unfinished one from the showcase, just leave the finish section - BLANK ie: No Finish.

At the bottom of your order.
Write that you would like .... Alpine White for the neck and Black on the Pegface.
Then at the end write ... That you acknowledge the extra costs for doing this. Thanks !!

The cost will be taken from your account anyway.

Right now my biggest issue is Swedish crown vs Dollar is really low, so I basically have to pay about $400 more for the same guitar I was about to order about 2 years ago  :sad1: Either I take a shot at it right now or hope the prices gets better again. Hahaha

Just use e-mail. That's what I typically do and they have always gotten back to me in a reasonable time frame, told me whether I could and exactly how to order something "off menu" and taken very good care of me in general.

Under-statement of the decade. It's very easy to want everything in the builder. It's a very different matter to actually program the (literally) trillions of possible combinations. The conditional logic required to make the whole thing work is really impossible to wrap one's head around.

The new site that is currently under development will be a huge advancement for Warmoth's production end. We will be going paperless for the first time in our history, which is a big deal. Unfortunately it's all work that the public will never see or care about.

When we unveil the new front-end (still a long ways away) we are fully expecting weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. :headbang: Nonetheless, the new site will introduce many new products, and many new options into the builders. One thing we plan to drop, however, is the visual component of the guitar body builder. It is simply too unwieldy to maintain and can't continue in its current state. Our plan is to introduce a more streamlined and easier to maintain version of it in subsequent iterations of the site.

Caveat: It's still early in the process, and everything I just said is subject to change.

That would be very unfortunate.

I recently purchased an expensive custom body.  Before finalizing, I spent around a month building guitars on the site over and over with different options until I figured out what I really wanted.

Without the ability to visualize an approximation of what it would look like, there's no way I would have spent that kind of money.  I'd have just gotten a finished body for 25% of the cost.

It may be that people who build custom guitars all the time don't need a visual approximation of what they're getting.  But for the average person who wants something different, buying without seeing is going to be a tough option.
