White primer before color paint?

Hi all,

I’m just about to start painting a Warmoth alder body that I got with the DIY paint-ready option. Using acrylic Liquitex spray paints in various colors.

Wondering— with this DIY paint-ready option, do I need to do a layer or two of white primer, or is the base coat already applied on the body adequate to just start applying the colored paint?

Using white or grey primer depending on the colour of the top coats may be worth doing to help block the grain pattern from being visible. And that way you can do level sand after primer etc and use less top coats which tend to be more expensive.

What color paint? Despite being opaque, the color under the color coat can affect the final appearance. If it’s anything you want some brightness or pop from, a white primer is a great idea.
