Which Callaham Bridge for 1 5/8 nut and HSS config??

Hi There,

This is my 1st Warmoth guitat that I'm putting together and would appreciate a little advise regarding the bridge. I'm ordering a mahogany body strat that is going to be routed for the HSS pickup config. The neck will have a 1 5/8 nut.


1. I'm thinking of getting a Callaham Vintage S Model Strat Bridge. Which size would suit my project. Narrow or Std string spacing?

2. When I get Warmoth to route for "vintage 6-hole trem" will the Callaham trem bolt straight on without further modification?

for string alignment it depends on the humbucker. for a SD trembucker or f-spaced diarzio you should be ok with either string spacing, with a gibson spacing on the humbucker you need to go with narrow spacing on the bridge.

The Humbucker is a Suhr SSV with a 53mm Fender spacing.

That's maybe true as far as pickup pole spacing, but the 'regular' callaham and warmoth vintage spacing is really wide, the E strings are right at the edge of the fretboard. Gives you lots of room all down the fretboard but if your nut is 1 5/8 you may not be someone who needs that. You may find you prefer the narrow spacing which is similar to what is on the modern fenders, which lets you do a bit of vibrato on the high E without falling off the cliff. The humbucker isn't going to sound all that different, strings don't need to exactly line up with pole pieces. If they're off a little it won't matter.

on second thought you can go either way with the spacing for the pickup
53mm = 2.086
vintage= 2.219
narrow =2.063

the spacing of the strings at the p/up will be slightly less than at the bridge but not much. vintage strat bridges were really wide, most trem spaced pups are really about right for floyds and others, yours is particularly wide and still isn't as close to the vintage as it is to the narrow.
