Finally had a little time to work on this Black Korina. I hit it first with ebony Timber Mate. I was surprised how dark it got, even after I sanded it back it was still quite dark. I didn't notice the Timber Mate staining Mahogany to the same level. :icon_scratch: Next time I will definitely seal it first to avoid any staining.

Anyway, I followed that with Tru Oil. This is my first time working with Tru Oil, but so far its been quite forgiving and easy to work with. I hit it lightly with Scotch Brite between coats. Here is a picture of the neck and body (front & back) after the 3rd pass.

I will probably do one more coat and then sand it back a bit just to smooth it out before giving it a final couple of coats.

+1, plus +1 for the 5000 Year Leap.  Incredible book about the fundamental beliefs that formed the basis for the establishment of our country.

And +1 for A Game of Thrones. Currently, I see that BK body becoming King. I really like the "staining" on it. Looks awesome. Makes me salivate.  :help:

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the encouragement!
I wasn't really intending to show off my rather eclectic library, but it makes a great place to hang my necks for drying.

The Japanese and the Jews is a very interesting book contrasting the 2 cultures. There is a whole body of study out there pointing to significant parallels in cultural attitudes and traditions that at least some have hinted was a relic of the influences of Jewish captives who were highly sought after as scribes, teachers to royalty across southern Asia in the 6 - 4 century BCE. Some suggest that Siddhartha Gautama may have been taught by such tutors, resulting in the amazing number of parallels seen in early Buddhist teaching to ancient traditional Judaism. Anyway, there are some really amazing (mind blowing) parallels to be seen between the Jewish and Japanese cultures once you start noticing them.

I think the 5000 Year Leap should be highly recommended, if not mandatory reading for anyone voting or participating in government. Whether the conclusions of the American founding fathers were right or wrong, the amount of brain power that went into coalescing nearly 5000 years of thought and study on the foundational concepts of how men should govern themselves, is un-paralleled in history. There is much to be learned from them that I find many, if not most people today are glaringly ignorant of. Also highly recommend the book next to it, The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith. Its a bit hard to read due to the archaic English, but it is completely amazing the amount of data he had soaked into his brain prior to writing the book, resulting in some truly world changing insights.

But, we're here for the guitars! The 4th coat went on this morning and it is looking better than I feared it would after the Timber Mate!  :guitarplayer2:

Ya'll are just too kind!  :occasion14:
But, we will have to see what it looks like after I start hangin hardware on it!
Thanks for the encouragement!! It drives me to do a better job! :guitarplayer2:

Finally got some cure on the Tru-Oil and now I'm starting to pull it together. Still waiting on a 4-way switch, but everything else is here. Went with BK BlackGuards, and of course neck jewelry from Doug!!  :occasion14:

Decided to go with someone's earlier suggestion of mixing chrome and black hardware, hoping to give it a little of that old T-Bucket Hot Rod look (had to draw the line at gray primer though - lol). And here is what it looks like so far...
