What do you think

'Funny how all through the '70s and '80s, Strat players complained about the "hum", and some switched to PAFs for that very reason, even though they lost the single-coil tone. Now I hear some people claiming that the "hum" is part of the vibe or "mojo". Well I ain't buyin' it for a minute. 60-cycle (or 50, if you're in other parts of the world) is not musical, and has no musical value whatsoever. It's just annoying. Of course there was a time when hum-canceling single-coils really didn't have the true single-coil sound, but that has changed in the 21st century. I have no use for the excessive hum that a single-coil pickup produces. An electric guitar is always gonna have some noise due to florescent and neon lights, and playing close to the output transformer in your amp, so why tolerate any more than you have to?

OK, Sorry but probably a dumb question, but this would be the first buidl for me....  If I go with a Strat style single coil setup, reer routed, do I stil need to do copper shielding and if so is the paint better?

I'm also thinking I want eh 6 hole vintage as I want the hardware gold and don't want the expense and trouble??? of the Floyd.  Any thougts?  What nut would you recommend?

Thanks all!

Personally, I think you should use shielding, regardless what type of pickups you go with, but as mentioned, there are differences in opinions onthe subject.  My feelings about it are that it can't hurt.  :occasion14:

Yeah, that was my feeling about it. The only reason I shielded my Warmoth is 'cuz I figured "it can't hurt.".
