Indeed, as the cavity is going to be routed the same, regardless of how many control holes in the order. And there would've been the "placeholder" location for that third opening anyway. But, for the joy of building & learning, forcing yourself to stay within the constraints of two pots would be an interesting challenge.

I didn't keep that guitar intact long enough to really dig deep into all of the options because my custom body design was a colossal mistake and it was just uncomfortable to play (but looked
