i didn't know jerry's guitar was cocobolo. that explains why they turn up in the showcase with cocobolo tops. warmoth doesn't offer cocobolo but my understanding is that the owner likes to make some custom stuff every once and a while and they sell it through the showcase. i'll tell you what that is some seriously beautiful wood.

I thought Warmoth was done using Cocobolo because it cause all kinds of respitory problems while sanding and machining it.  I know it's wicked expensive to just buy it, at least everywhere I look for it.

Check out Alembic's website, they are the parent company of the luthier that Jerry used.  In fact the beginning of Alembic came out of some Grateful Dead needs in the equipment department.  More on sound reinforcement and reproduction, but the guitars came along eventually.  Be prepared, there is some serious guitar porn in their website!!!  Most of thier guitars start at 7K and go up to 4-15 grand!!

watch the showcase, they wont offer cocbolo for custom orders but on occasion a strat or wdg will pop up with a cocobolo top even though they're advertising that they dont offer it do to alergic reactions. maybe it was leftover stock and may now be depleted but i remember several a couple years ago when i discovered the forum and checked out the showcase on occasion. there were also some checkerboard patern tops with maple and walnut which they dont offer either.

id like to get one of those rare pieces one day. who knows if warmoth has a big enough following they may become valuable, or atleast a really cool thing to show off, knowing that it is dificult for anyone else to get.

I can't stand the GD.  I keep trying, but I end up retching and twitching.

Really?  Honestly?  Man sounds like you got your hands on the brown acid at the original woodstock!!!

Why can't you stand them?  Seriously?  Take the whole scene out of the picture and just listen to the music.

I mean I don't like Metallica, but they don't cause gastro-intestial and epeleptic episodes with me!!!

Personally I don't like peas.  So I don't eat them.  But I don't bust someone's balls for liking peas.  They are just freakin vegetables!!

Same.  I had a good friend who was a huge GD/Phish fan, and it's just not my cup of tea.  Forget the scene... the music bores me to tears.  I'm glad some people like it and get something out of it.  That's what life is about; finding what works for you.  I like brunettes and music that moves me.  I like cold pizza and wringing the life out of a B on the low E string Neil Young style.  I like a pressed shirt and a fat swing bass line.  I like a mohawk left down and a Tom Waits song while I cook dinner.  I could never find a place in my life for the GD.

I don't think the GD thing is about the music so much as the experience. All the music does is serve as a powerful reminder of an intense time, kinda like a whiff of your first love's perfume, or the smell of baking cookies. You're immediately transported back in time, awash in memories of deep emotions that you can almost feel all over again.

If it makes anyone feel better, I bought my first Phish album (having never heard a song) in 2000.  If it's important, the album is Rift.

I like to listen to a very very wide range of music, I've just never had the urge to listen to some bands.

There are several Cocobolo pieces currently offered as "unique Choices," like this one:

They're not part of the body builder, but I'm pretty sure you can order it on call-in custom orders.

never listened to the Dead in HS but my band plays a few of there songs (Bertha, Casey Jones and a few others) Good music to jam to, that is what they were all about. Jamming on stage.
