Wet sanding timeline

I have finally decided to bite the bullet and work on the finish on my LPS (a.k.a. the "Orange Peel Special"). Basically, all I need to do - I think - is wet sand and polish. Here's the thing: the guitar has been finished for nigh on two years. Is it too late to wet sand? In other words, will the laquer now be too hard to take a sand 'n polish?

I am going to attempt to do my first solid color (rattle can) + Nitro finish..
it will be great if someone has a great step by step link!

Of course. That's exactly why I waited two years to do this. It had nothing to do with the fact that I had no idea what I was doing at the time and that I just wanted to play the new guitar I put together.  :laughing7:
