I would only try with cream pickups instead of black ones... This is a serious candidate to the GOTM
+1 Most definately go with cream P90s.....

Sorry is that a Rosewood Tele body and a Wenge neck...or a Wenge body with Rosewood top on the Tele? :icon_scratch:

Looks great whatever it is though!  :blob7:  :blob7:  :blob7:

Rosewood top on a Wenge body and the neck is an ebony fretboard on a wenge neck.

MAGIC! Tone should be quite snappy with the Wenge/Ebony combo neck. Would sound great with the P90s.  :hello2:  :hello2:  :headbang:  :headbang:

Doug, You don't think a P90 combo can get a nice trebly snap with that sort of wood under it?  :icon_scratch:

Black or chrome pickup covers! Cream covers encheapens the noblest guitar

Edit: Oh and that's some great looking rosewood!

The tuners are in.  The ferrules are in.  I checked the neck and it is straight, so I attached it to the body.  Going to put the P-90's in and.....my little screwdriver doesn't have enough teeth to get the screws into the wood, even with pilot holes, and I don't want to mess the screws up.  Guess the little tuner screws finally did it in.  :sad1:

I'll have to go to Home Depot tomorrow and get another small phillips screwdriver.  I'll do the wiring tomorrow as well and it should be ready to go.

Yeah those tuner screws can be rough. Especially in the exotic woods. You may want to take one of the P90 screws with you to find a driver. It pays to find just the right one. Not all have the same angle on them. I almost always use a little paraffin on the screws. Don't use soap! The paraffin will not only allow it to go in more easily, but also help lock it in place. Friction warms it up and when it cools it sticks. ( you may already know this... )

I'm digging on your choice in woods.  Very nice.  I'm looking forward to seeing what this thing looks like when your done.

Might I suggest Reed James Custom pickups.  He carves the covers out of solid blocks of wood.  I have a set of Cocobolo P90s in my thinline.    And yes, they're good.  He winds them to taste until you're happy with them.  I have a second set of covers I can swap out that are made of Rosewood.

I assume from photo that you oiled wenge neck.am waiting on my same neck.I understand that I don't necessarily have to finish neck. What was your reasoning for finishing neck

1) I like the feel of it with tung oil, like playing on silk
2) I live in Florida where the humidity can get high plus I have a tendency to sweat in the summer months here, so I wanted a little bit of protection on the raw wood.

I knew about not using soap, but didn't even think about paraffin.  I was using a wax candle.  Thanks for the tip  :occasion14:
