So in my hunt for a nice oil finish I discovered Watco , the word on the street is this is what Charvel uses on their necks and those feel killer so I went for it.

I'm going to do something a little odd , it will have no controls . It's getting a bridge p/u only . A Nordstrand big split .

I took a chance and put the Watco on the fingerboard as well , it looks killer and feels like silk .

3 coats of Watco in I think that'll do, I'll let it cure for a few days and hit it with some wax . Should be set up by the weekend .

Don't know about Charvel's choice, but I've used Watco for many years on furniture, and it's a great product.

I'm planning a Jazzmaster build and intend to use Watco on a Korina top.  I always used at least 5 coats, or as many as the wood will take, on tables and such, and buff it up for a beautiful, soft, almost glowing sheen.

Never seen it used on a fret board. Like to see how it works out down the road.

Looking good!

I'm stunned that the fretboard took that oil/varnish.  Is it tacky at all?  Looks beautiful.

One of these days, Fretless, I reckon you'll turn out a piece of work that's sub-amazing. Today ain't that day, however.  Lovely work.

:glasses10: Thanks Fellas ! Nah Rosewood loves oil , lots of fretless guys use tru-oil on them which builds up but this took it well so we'll see how she holds up .

That's good news, then. I've heard naturally oily woods like Rosewood/Pau Ferro don't fare well with TO and never really dry.  I have been planning to use TO or WDO to darken up an all PF neck if it arrives lighter than I want.  I planned on using Naptha to help dry out the surface to help the oil set.  Looks like this may not be necessary!

did a quick test to see what she sounds like , direct in totally dry

For crying out loud there are children here man!

'nother wee test , main part is dry but now with the high pass off because I forgot to turn it off before, solo has 'verb & delay , couldn't resist ...

Occasionally people gripe about everyone finishing BK in oil....

but it's just so danged beautiful. Breathing air is cliche too, but that doesn't stop people from doing it. Some things are ubiquitous because they WORK! and they're still awesome for it.
