Warmoth Strat Parts Finally Here!

Oh yeah, I have a question for you guys: I accidentally () got a graph tech tusq nut instead of a graph tech black nut. Would that be a major problem, including that this strat's going to have hipshot trem? I've been used to playing a stop tail bridge, so maybe I won't use the trem too much...

Shouldn't be a problem.  Both nuts are made from graph tech, so I would think they would both be slippery enough.

Wow, I just looked at my order before I changed the inlays (which I did after I ordered it), and it says that I did order the Black Tusq XL nut.  :icon_scratch: :-\

Nope, it shouldn't be a problem.  The black TUSQ XL nuts are impregnated with Teflon but the white isn't.  This doesn't mean that it won't work with properly cut slots.  Just make sure there's a nice gentle angle toward the string post and that the bottom of each slot is polished.  A Strat peghead has a relatively straight shot to the tuner post so you'll have far less pinching/binding issues to deal with.  The white TUSQ material is decent and is pretty smooth.

You could call Warmoth anyways, but I personally don't see a playability issue.

Edit: clarification

Of course, there isn't a playability issue with the neck, but I was wondering if the guitar string would A: Go out of tune or B: Break easily. I might as well tell Warmoth that they made a mistake, but I really want to send the neck back to Warmoth for them to change the nut. I just hope the build comes out well!

I have a tremolo guitar with a plastic nut that doesn't have much difficulty with string breakage or going out of tune, so I think you'll be fine as long as you set it up right.

Sorry, by playability I meant that tuning or breakage shouldn't be an issue.  Hannaugh is exactly correct that any properly set up nut should work....so long as you're not doing a Steve Vai impression.

Give them a call on Monday and see what they have to say.  Be forewarned that the round trip will be probably be a few weeks.

OTOH if they offer you a credit, you can make a new one yourself since you have a great template for a starting point.  All precut nuts need a little file work anyways, and its a fantastic skill to pick up.

Dan Erlewine's "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great" has a really good nut setup tutorial BTW.  I don't know if you need it, but in case you do I thought I'd mention it.
