W bass neck nut dimensions?

OK, I'm confused.  For the W-style (standard scale 2+2) bass neck with J-style width, what are the exact nut dimensions?  I purchased a 3rd-party brass nut designed for a Fender J-bass neck that I was going to use....and it is absolutely too small - so short the top doesn't even come up to the fingerboard, and also apparently not deep enough (fingerboard to headstock) either.

If I'd known this, I probably would have gotten a nut installed with the neck.

Any help is appreciated!

Are you talking about nut height?  Then the difference is that warmoth uses the old 'slab board' specs that fender used in the '50s.  Your nut is probably designed for the newer (and not as good IMHO) veneer board specs that fender used since then.  This makes the Warmoth fingerboard slot much deeper than what your nut was cut for.  You need a nut designed for a 50's style slab board neck.

Either that or you need to be creative with shims.

Yes, both nut height and depth seem to be too small, by a large margin.  I can get another one made from the person I got this one from, but I need the dimensions.

question - do you have the neck in front of you?  If so - why don't you just measure the slot?

Another thing to note: A slab board nut will be flat on the bottom.  A veneer board nut will be curved on the bottom

I think we're talking about this type of neck:

If so, it's not a slot at all - on the 'tiltback' necks the nut is at the end of the fingerboard. Basically a Gibson style rather than Fender. Can't help with precise measurements but I think the height is going to need to be around 5/16" - 3/8". Something like this  Graph Tech:

ah - I was confused.  I read "jazz bass" and went from there.

Still - you can just measure it and go from there.
