Velocity Screaming Deal Build

Here is an alder velocity my son picked up for $125 on the screaming deal event.  As it sits the alder has been coated with shellac and waiting to be sanded.  My son wants "something purple."  This could be interesting.

He is looking to do an all maple neck with a 4x2 layout.  Gold hardware.... :tard:  Pick ups will be a P90, lipstick, and hum bucker that will be tapped for single coil use.

The body comes in at 3 lbs even.  It is REALLY SMALL feeling.  BTW...fits PERFECT in my EVH wolfgang case :evil4:

I like the idea of purple. As I am a gem cutter, I've thought about trying to make a color to mimic tanzanite (http://beautifulnow.is/bnow/beautiful-migration-blues). It will display purple and blue tones at the same time.

My 1st attempt at purple.  This was a trial run.

I must admit...gemstones fascinate me.  The value iof the stone is not significant rather how a simple stone can be shaped into such beauty.  and as you can see I like sparkely things

Ah there it is.

Shall be nice to follow this. Gold and purple sounds tasty.

Cheers

did you score the other?

Yea:) . It shall be on it's way. I chose the slower/cheaper oversea shipping option, so it will take a while, but i'm in no rush.

Ok...65 degrees in Philly with lo humidity.  I am spraying.  We went with darker purple with a small accent line.  I did not want to go too big since this is only Alder.  I mixed the color light and let the color build.  I used almost a 50/50 combo of blue and bright red dye with a few drop of bordeaux red to darken it up.  Clear goes on tomorrow.

It is a VERY faint burst.  It is best seen straight on.

Wow, I'm seeing about three colors in there and the wood grain showing through. Good job! It has to look even better in person. (And you just had to tease me with the masked accent, didn't you?!  :toothy10:)

Low 60s in philly today so I sprayed the clear.  Now we wait.
Thanks for all the positive comments.  The purple really popped with the added clear.

Nice job DMARCO, should be sweet...

Wish I'd remembered you're in Philly, I was there just a month ago for about a week...

Final sand and polish.  This one needed about two weeks to dry.  I have had good success thinning the Watco brushing lacquer and spraying it on.  Using 2:1 lacquer to thinner.  I love seeing the carpet reflect on the side of the second shot....its like a purple mirror. :cool01: :cool01: :cool01:

I need to get a better lint free rag...sorry for the dust.  We still have to pick a neck.  I am thinking roasted maple.
