Vega Trem and other questions

Hey y’all! Hope everybody’s having such a blessed holiday season! I was wondering what everybody thinks about the vega trem vt1 and if yhe 6 screw or two point is better for a strat? Also I am going with crimson guitars alcohol dyed and oil finish for both my neck and body, possibly a wax too, do I need to use grain filler or can I finish it without? As far as other things like pots I still don’t know what I’m going to purchase. I am going with 500k with noiseless pickups and a blender pot for sure! But I am curious, if I drill the pickguard holes myself, does it matter how close I position the pots? I would be curious about putting them as close together as possible to not have the knob in the way of the bridge pup, but not a fan of the Tom Delonge placement.

I have the two point version, mainly because I was going to replace the bridge on a Fender strat that had that setup. I ended up installing it on Warmoth Velocity. It's great, but if I did again I would probably get the 6 screw version because then wouldn't have to install the studs or pay to have them put in.

As for grain filler, what kind of woods? I didn't need any for Swamp Ash ...

I have both the 2 and 6 point in different guitars and had great results. In fact, the 6 point is on a chambered strat body with a baritone conversion neck of all things. It’s a very smooth tremolo system, and I really like the ability to bend slightly upward as well. Set up is a little trickier, but well worth doing right. (Pro tip: the saddle adjustment screws have always been too tall for comfortable palm muting when set low. Monsterbolts.com has great M3 6mm replacements that eliminate palm grinding)

Drilling your own pickguard holes is super easy, but I’d generally recommend having the pickguard, pots, and knobs in hand so that you can map it out and template where you plan to drill. If the pots are so close they’re touching, it shouldn’t be an issue as long as the casings are the only things touching. If the lugs are touching, that’s a problem. But it’s a problem that I’ve remedied by putting some masking tape between them to break that connection. You could always rotate the pot too, and they make mini sizes for tight spaces. I’ve had good luck with the mini Alpha pots.

Sorry. Rambling. Happy to answer anything more specific. Just posted a pic of a 3-knob Tele I put together years ago. You can see how close I got those with no problems at all.

Pickguard holes. I secure the pickguard via the mounting holes into a piece of scrap wood and then clamp that to prevent the pickguard twisting when drilling. You need to leave at least as much space as needed for the lugs, wiring etc, and to be able to turn them.

The video is good.  I'd like to ask how you decide the position for the volume knob.  Did you measure this from another guitar or previous project?

This opens Windows Photos which has a simple video editor. The music is something from YouTube which is...
